Finding Dane had been nearly impossible, and he had to be so fucking stubborn - or hurt, by how the night had ended - and refused to listen. And Finn had had no choice but to chase him, to tackle him, and then that had, somehow, been the signal the Lords of his father's court had been seeking, drawing hidden swords to take hold of the Solari and even his own father. The noblemen had started to speak, and Finn continued to think how he had never agreed to this, did not want this. Did he want the Lunare to have surrendered all they had? Of course not. But these high lords had not fought, had not broken even a single sweat during the war. They had sent their men to Finn, to train, and fight, and many to die. Finn had been there.
That is when he steps back from Dane, and Dane doesn't take the blade he drops (his own pilfered knife) but rather gives him the chance to speak. And there is much to say. The High Lords flee once he gives them the chance, but he will hunt them down. His soldiers will join him. But this is his chance, an opportunity to take. He stutters for a minute, when his father reaches him, to shake his hand, he thinks. "There's more. Those lords were wrong, in this coup, but they were keenly aware of what the Lunare were losing in this treaty. There are...aspects of it that we need to re-draw." His father stares at him with an expression he cannot grasp - is it anger? It cannot be disappointment, for he had become all too familiar with that gaze in their journey here, when he had been practically singularly blamed by the Lunare King for their losing the war. Perhaps, this is where they win some of the land back. Though that is not his gain.
The Solari nobles are still reeling, clearly wishing for a drink, as Dane's father has already claimed to want. The disloyal of the Lunare are long since fled. "Give me one day to organize my men against those who tried to bring bloodshed here, and then we ---" His eyes look between his father's eyes and the eyes of the Solari King, who seems to be listening to him with rapt attention. After all: Finn had just saved his life. And Finn is the heir to his father's throne, should have been involved in these treaty discussions from the start, if he is being honest "---Can discuss proper peace terms." Not that Finn wouldn't immediately join his men, but he wanted to ensure the treaty was signed, sealed, ironclad. Dane, he finds, is still looking at him as well, the blade forgotten on the ground, the one Dane had lunged at him with, the one Finn had held to his throat. His own fills with bile at the memory, from merely moments before. He swallows it down, before continuing.
"One day. The Lunare soldiers will not let an attempted assassination on their own King go unpunished, not when I give the command. And then we can discuss actual peace terms." Because this had been tentative at best, with himself on edge from being offered as a spoil of war to the Solari King's niece, to Dane's outburst at the announcement of the engagement, to what had happened here. His father agrees, and it seems the Solari King is amenable enough, perhaps grateful to be alive, that Finn had not wanted power more than his death. Even after all the Lunare men who had died in the war. He has ideas, of what peace is to him. And it hardly involves marrying a Solari woman. The idea of uniting their houses though - he looks at Dane once more, nodding his head once, before he does what he knows Dane will likely not expect, and take back to the skies, because he is sincere in getting his men to hunt down the leaders of the coup. He just hopes Dane will follow him, because he has much more to say, to say specifically to Dane Solari.
