Rules of this one: List ten of your favorite female characters in ten different fandoms
I got rambly in this. Sorry about that. Anyway...
Star Trek - Uhura - She left such a deep impression on me as a child how she’d admit openly that she was scared but still power through despite her fear. Nichelle Nichols has such a comforting voice and the way she played Uhura drew me in. I also like what Zoe Saldana has done with the role in the recent movies.
Dragon Ball Z/GT/S - Chichi - Chichi gets a bad rap in fandom, but I think it’s easy to forget how young she was at the start of DBZ and how Goku seems to like that she asserts herself. I really feel for her that after a year of Gohan being kidnapped, he just goes off to Namek. It must have been really hard for her. She’s really strong both physically and mentally. It’s nice when the narrative can get away from the nagging wife trope with her.
DC - Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl aka Oracle - I’ve loved her since I first watched the 1960′s Batman TV show reruns as a kid. She’s smart, she’s nerdy, and she gets the job done. It’s a shame that there haven’t really been any recent DC live action movies that pulled her into the narrative, but at the same time I’m not sure I’d trust Nolan or Synder with her. I’d be nice to see her again though. She was so very validating for me as a kid who was super nerdy and wanted to try and do the right then whenever possible.
Sailor Moon R/S/SuperS/Stars/Crystal - Chibiusa aka Sailor Chibi Moon/Super Sailor Chibi Moon - At first I didn’t know what to make of her because what a weird way to introduce a character omg Takeuchi. However, once I got to know Chibiusa I just fell in love with her. She starts off as a scared but determined girl who’s been through a great trauma and over the course of the series transforms into a strong Senshi with great potential to become even stronger as she matures and gains more experience. Also I feel like, as someone who was kind of ostracized by my peers and felt isolated despite the love around me, it makes her relatable to me on a level that she probably isn’t for a lot of fandom. I remember when I was younger and I said she was my favorite people would practically have kittens about it, but even now as I await more SMC, I just really have such a fondness for her. That said, I love all the Senshi too. This series really is such a great cast of main and recurring characters. I get emotional with all of them, but Chibiusa especially.
Harry Potter - Minerva McGonagall - She is exactly the type of teacher I enjoyed having in school. It would be nice to be at Hogwarts during her tenure. I liked that she always seemed to have the students’ best interests at heart.
Boku no Hero Academia/My Hero Academia - It’s a tie between Asui and Uraraka. I love Asui because she seems practical and friendly. When the kids are in over their heads, she seems like a good person to have around to help get them through whatever trouble they’re in. I love Uraraka because not only is she the kind of cute bubbly combination I like in anime characters but I love show she can go from :D to >| quickly. Horikoshi made some good choices I think she he made her not only a sweet girl that is cute with the protagonist but also a formidable opponent in battle. It’s nice to see both of these characters go places that similar characters in shonen don’t seem to get to go.
MCU - Gamora - She’s strong, she’s capable, and I like that she also seems to still be in touch with parts of her that Thanos couldn’t stamp out of her without it compromising her character (like how she was good with baby!Groot). I also liked that when faced with the truth of why Nebula is the way she is, Gamora was able to accept it and the two were able to mend things about as well as they could. I really enjoy her part of scenes and I always look forward to seeing more of her.
Venture Bros. - Sheila aka Dr. Mrs. the Monarch - I’ve always liked Shiela from the way she deals with people to the way she balances out the characters around her. I also like how she seems to have a conscience as well. I can’t wait to see what season seven has in store for her.
One Piece - Robin - There’s a lot to relate to with Robin. From how people treat her to how she views herself to her love of history and archaeology, etc...we have a lot in common. I also like how she did that Dragon Ball thing where she started out as an antagonist and she’s now a trusted nakama. It’s sad that we haven’t gotten to see her lately since we’ve been so busy with the whole rescue Sanji mission thing. It’s also a shame that after the timeskip she hasn’t gotten to do as much as she did before the timeskip but maybe now that everyone’s splintered into smaller groups she’ll get more of a time to shine when we catch back up with her group.
Ash vs. Evil Dead - Kelly Maxwell - I love so much about her from her wit and sarcasm to how Dana DeLorezo plays her. I’m glad that her character has survived this far and I’m looking forward to where the show takes her next season
