putting this out into the world for someone with a longer attention span than me to write: a PYNCH fic where Ronan owns or works at a shop (a second hand book store with Gansey, a plant shop with plants he grows at the Barns, a gallery where the Lynch brothers sell Jordan’s art) and Opal frequents the shop and Ronan loves her like his own little feral child.
Opal’s foster parents can’t keep her anymore (they’re moving overseas, one of them got severely injured in an accident or fell terminally ill) and Opal is going to be sent to another state if she doesn’t get adopted/fostered. And Ronan Cannot Let That Happen.
But what responsible adoption agency would let a gay, single man in his early 20s adopt a child? Maybe on another fucking planet. So Ronan does the only thing that makes damn sense: “Parrish, I need us to pretend to be engaged so I can adopt Opal” so being engaged makes you look more responsible, so they have to set a ‘date’ to appease the adoption people, so Ronan needs to actually get his house ready to have a kid, so
“Ronan, they’re going to want us to BOTH sign the adoption papers.” “Fucking Christ, Parrish. You can just be absent when we have to sign the papers.” “I don’t think it works like that.” “Then I’ll tell them only I will sign.” “Then what’s the point of being engaged?” “I don’t fucking know, Parrish. None of this makes any goddamn fucking sense, I just know I can’t lose the kid.”
[someone else can solve that problem for me]
All of the fake relationship AU tropes: sharing a bed, love declarations as an aside to a friend, too-much-sexual-tension; all of it.
