anyway i think it’s high time the spn fandom stopped propping bobby up and calling him dean and sam’s ‘’true’’ father when the reality is that he also sucked hardcore and was extremely manipulative and emotionally abusive.
let’s talk about pastor jim instead. less bobby, more pastor jim.
Watch the mom be some random human woman who shows up for .05 seconds and then we never see her again. She has no importance to the story. She was just the vessel through which the twins were created.
What: First part: Lindsey walking into Joe’s office without knocking: Joe hides his alcohol in his desk quickly even though Lindsey sees it. He distracts her by telling her to prepare to meet someone important tomorrow. Second part: Joe introduces Lindsey to Daniel after telling her the day before she’d meet someone important and she’s being super stressed about it, until she meets the adorable son Daniel.
Joe: [It was the next day and Joe was standing in the hallway where Caroline’s mom dropped Daniel off. He had told Lindsey to wait in his office. He knew it wasn’t fair to make her nervous, but she was getting on his nerves. Besides, she would forgive him when she saw the sweet face of his son] Say bye granny. Daniel: Bye granny [he said with a smile]. Caroline’s mom: Bye dear. [She nodded at Joe before she left] Joseph. Joe: [Joe walked back to his office, looking around the corner] Lindsey? Meet.. /the/ most important Vanderbilt. At least in my life. [He walked in holding Daniel’s hand]
Lindsey: [she was nervously waiting in Joe’s office, pacing the floors back and forth until she heard her name. She stopped and looked up, surprised to see a young boy standing beside Joe] You didn’t tell me this was who I was meeting today. [she bent down to Daniel’s level] Hi, I’m Lindsey. What’s your name?
Joe: [He saw Lindsey stop walking halfway through his office] Oh I did. The most important person to the company because he will take over one day. If he wants to, of course [he smiled at Daniel]. Daniel: [He hid behind Joe’s leg] I’m not allowed to talk to strangers [he said, the difficult word choice definitely sounding like it was something his parents always said]. Joe: Hm, that is true. But Lindsey is no stranger. She’s… daddy’s friend.
Lindsey: He’s got big shoes to fill to take over for you. [she smiled at Daniel] But I think he would be an asset no matter what. [she looked up at Joe surprisingly when he called her a friend] Uh, yeah. Your daddy and I are good friends. [she turned her attention back to the young boy] It’s okay though. Your parents taught you a very good thing to remember. Your daddy told me that you like trains?
Joe: I’d let him do it his way. And who knows, maybe he’s not interested and then you will have to take over [he winked at her]. We definitely are, buddy. Go say hi, it’s okay. Daniel: [Letting go of his dads leg a little] I’m Daniel. [His face lit up when Lindsey mentioned trains and he nodded very very excited] Yes! I like Thomas! He is the best train! [That was practically Daniel’s cue to know it was okay and he ran past them into his dad’s office to Joe’s chair] Joe: I think you passed the test. Even got two minutes of his attention. His time is just very important and valuable, a true business man [he grinned].
Lindsey: M--Me? [she stuttered, surprised that he would even suggest her taking over his business] Hi Daniel, it's nice to meet you. [she smiled at the young boy before he bolted off to the other side of the room. She laughed as she stood up, standing beside Joe and watched Daniel as he swung around in the big chair] I had a little help from a friend. [she nudged him gently, teasing him about calling them friends] You didn't tell me /this/ was who I was meeting. He's adorable.
Joe: Yeah, why not? If you have that aspiration, I wouldn't mind giving it a chance [he shrugged]. Not yet though, I'm too young to retire already. [He looked with a proud smile at Daniel turning round and round in his chair.] A /friend/? [He grinned at her.] Oh but I did, he is the most important Vanderbilt... to me. [He walked over to his minibar, taking out something to drink for his son] Hey buddy, do you want some apple juice? [His hands were shaking while he tried to put in the straw, he rubbed his eyes before trying again. He knew he had stopped with drinking too late this time for Daniel's arrival, as he felt like he just wanted to get back to bed right away. He gaze a quick glance at Lindsey, hoping she hadn't noticed.]
Lindsey: I didn’t think that would be something you were interested in. Though by the time you retire, wouldn’t it almost be my time to retire too? We are only a few years apart. [she shook her head and laughed] Isn’t that what you called us? Friends? How did I get so lucky. [she teased] Ahh, that makes much more sense. You know I was beyond nervous because of you, right? [she smiled but her smiled faded, watching him having trouble with the juice box. She looked over at Daniel who was completely invested in his father and the juice to come. She walked over to Joe, hiding him from Daniel’s view. She placed her hands on top of his and gently pulled the juice and straw from his hands.] I got it. [she spoke softly and turned back to Daniel with a smile. She handed the little boy the juice box and then turned back to Joe. She mouthed silently to him] You okay?
Joe: You're good at your job, if my son wouldn't want to take over the company, I'd look at someone else. That could be you. Hm, I'm rich enough to retire earlier. [He grinned] I did, I just didn't think you'd be able to get it out of your mouth. /You/ were nervous? I didn't think that could be possible. [Joe looked away when she placed her hands on his, she had soft, warm hands. He felt ashamed that she had to see him like that.]
Daniel: I made a friend at school. His name is Peter. He says he likes spiders but I don't like them. But that's okay, because he has a nice backpack with an astronaut on it .... [Daniel happily chatted away, not aware of the situation while he sipped his apple juice]
Joe: Fine [he mouthed at Lindsey, looking more irritated than he wanted to. He quickly put on a smile again] Wow! Spiders are scary, but now if you see one Peter can help you. So, big guy, do you want to go to daddy's next meeting and be reaaaaally quiet, or stay here with Lindsey? I've bought this new puzzle, but I'm not sure if she can complete it on her own, maybe she needs your help.
Lindsey: I think your son is a little too young to be making those decisions [she teased] but I can't see why he wouldn't want to be just like his dad when he's older. Vanderbilt Industries is successful because of you. [she rolled her eyes] Oh, ha ha. Very funny. Yes, I can be nervous sometimes. I just prefer if you don't see it. Considering you are my boss and all. [she didn't understand why he was so mad at her once she helped him with his son's juice box. But she ignored him and focused on Daniel instead] Oh, a puzzle? Uhh.. yeah, sure. [she felt a little uncomfortable with the fact that Joe was about to leave his child in her hands. She looked over to Joe] So I'm the babysitter now?
Joe: You think? I didn't make it successful, my grandfather did, I just try not to make a mess of it. I wouldn't have thought you could be nervous. I like seeing it. It shows you do have other feelings than being annoyed with me. Would you really have been nervous meeting my father though? Or did you think I was bringing over Caroline? Because that would've been the worst idea of the century. [He raised his eyebrows when she didn't seem to fond of looking after Daniel] I don't leave my child with just everyone or I would've hired an actual babysitter. But I've got a better idea if you don't want to. [He grabbed a huge folder with papers and gave it to her] The meeting starts in five minutes. You'll represent me.
Lindsey: Maybe you’re grandfather helped but you’re maintaining this business and being successful at it. [she rolled her eyes] But it’s much easier to be annoyed with you. I would have been nervous, of course! He’s like a celebrity in this place for everything he’s done. [she bit her lip, slightly nervous again] I only just met him though. You trust me that much?? [as much as she wanted to say no to his offer, she also was the kind of girl who refused to take the easy way out. She went over and grabbed the folder, expecting him to stop her] Fine, I’ll head over to the meeting room now.
Joe: Did you just give me a compliment? Don't make me shy [he said though it was clearly amusing him]. And of course you love being annoyed with me. I'll remember not to tell you when he comes then - though he's barely here. He spends most of his days in The Hamptons. Like all the rich retired people do. [He looked over at Daniel and then back at her] I'm pretty sure you won't kidnap him, even though he's incredibly adorable. [He frowned surprised when she actually took the folder, ready to take over his meeting] Good luck then?
Lindsey: I was feeling nice today, thought I’d pay you a compliment. Don’t get used to it. [she shrugged] isn’t that part of the job description? Be annoyed with your boss who makes the weirdest comments sometimes. Must be the dream — to get to live in the Hamptons all year long. [she smiled, looking over at Daniel] He’s very cute. But no, I would never do that. Oh, thanks. [she turned back around, holding the folder out to him] Unless you’re sure you don’t want to do it?
Joe: I'll cherish it so I can live on it forever in case I won't get another compliment in three months. Oh yes it was, I wanted a very annoyed assistant to roll her eyes at me every minute. I'd absolutely love it. I actually have a vacation home of my own, bought it with Caroline. [He smiled] Good, because I'd hunt you down forever to get my boy back. [He raised an eyebrow at her] No, it's okay, you're not a babysitter.
Lindsey: [she rolled her eyes] You're so weird sometimes. Lucky you, you just got yourself another eye roll then from your annoyed /friend/. Of course you would have a place in the Hamptons.. or is it still yours? Did you end up giving it up to Caroline? [she looked down and smiled, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear] Good thing you don't need to worry about that. [she nodded] You're right, I'm not. Anything I should know before I go in? [she asked, still not willing to give up to him on this because she knew how big of a deal this was]
Joe: That's what all the women like about me. Aw, thank you. Why 'of course'? I could've had a vacation home anywhere else. It is still mine. I go there sometimes with friends. She got our small vacation home in Aspen to go skiing. [He smiled at her] Uhm, I don't know, just get me my deal? Unless you've changed your mind.
Lindsey: Ew, gross. There are children present, Joe! Because it just makes sense that you would have a house in the richest part of New York. Annnnd in Aspen? Wow, really putting that money to good use. [she shrugged] Nah, if I’m going to take over, I might as well go into this meeting and do the deal. I’m shocked you trust me this much. Wow.
Joe: Sorry, not sorry - he loves my office chair more than listening to me. Okay, okay, maybe I'm one of those rich people like everyone else. I help the housing market though. [He couldn't help a smile] It's your chance to prove how much you can do. And it gives me some time with Daniel. Good luck.
I lack the ability to let go and while I agree being weak is one of the single most unhealthy things you can be for yourself, I also need these moments- I need to hold on, I need to feel and sink into the depths of what I'm feeling because who are we gonna trust huh? Our thoughts? Those thoughts that could be presumed to hold some overly extensive nonexistent instance? Or the natural bliss of being in your company. I'm low key just in denial and I'll be forced to face the facts sooner or later; either way every fucking second I let myself sink into the thoughts shit sucks until I focus on the blissful part of not having to rid ourselves of each other, because I chose to embrace the beauty of friendship than to lose you. I feel appreciative to even have that, because on our own level that's just as relevant too.
