Jake Sully’s Songcord

Description: Now that he is one of the people, you persuade Jake to begin his own songcord.

Pairing: jake sully x navi!reader

Author's Note: this was entirely inspired by a conversation i had with @junebugonjupiter. at her behest, it is done ! anything for my twin/cousin/bestie ! i hope you enjoy ! it is short and sweet (hopefully).

“You want me to scrapbook? And sing about it?” 

Jake’s human words were strange to your ears, but the resistance in his voice was clear. He crouched beside you, warily examining the fibers and beads that you gathered in front of you. He looked quite offended at the idea of beginning his own songcord. 

“I’m not doing that,” he concluded, shaking his head. 

“You must, now that you are one of the people,” you explained, shifting your weight to face him. “It is tradition.”

“I’m good,” he declined and you sighed. The stubborn tawtute. 

“All Na’vi have one,” you tried to persuade, gesturing to yours on the ground. It held both precious memories and the promise of tomorrow. You couldn’t believe there was a stone on yours dedicated to the skxawng. “Even the fiercest warriors maintain their songcord and sing its melody.”

Jake said nothing and you rolled a wooden bead between your fingers as you mulled over your next words. Picking them carefully, you said, “Tsu'tey has one.” 

The five digits of his open palm came into view. “...Give it to me.”

You smiled privately, pleased at your success and handed Jake a few pieces of twine. 

“Watch closely, yawntu,” you said as you began twisting multiple strands together, demonstrating a knot that would strengthen the fibers and create a base for the songcord. The base of a story that had only just begun. You could foresee that his song would be extraordinary and you wondered with excitement what part you would play in it.  

You laughed as Jake clumsily followed along with a grimace in his expression. The knot he produced was pitiful. He would have to try again, but Jake Sully was not known to give up so easily.

Made one of the necklaces Aha'ri was wearing the night the Sarentu kids were taken, as part of my Le'sohek songcord project.

Le'sohek recognizes her scent (and the scents of the others and her own) among the belongings scattered at and in Processing in TAP Con. Le'sohek takes both the necklaces, putting the upper one on her songcord to represent finding the facility and wears the lower one daily.

My first attempt at making my OC's songcord: Makayla Sully

Any items in blue letters are ones I wanted to include, but I haven't come up with what they represent yet.

Obviously, I had no idea what I was doing, but I figured neither did Kayla when she was first starting to make her songcord in the fic, so it's only character-accurate! The color change of the cord is intentional, showing when she started using materials from the Metkayina clan (and also improving her technique).
