“That Would Be Enough” from Hamilton, but you’re telling TOMURA that he’s going to be a father.
This was so far out of his plans, something he never even considered as a possibility, that his face is totally blank for a moment.
There isn’t enough time to prepare, you know. There never would be, even if you had years.
By the look on his face, you suspect that the thought he could have a child is something that never even crossed his mind. Worse, maybe it has, but he came to the conclusion that ‘someone who kills everything he touches surely couldn’t create life’. And here is the proof, your words, proving him wrong if he’s ever thought of it.
“I’m — you’re — what—?” he stammers after a moment. He clearly, so painfully clearly, has no idea what to say. The look on his face is like he’s terrified that this is a dream and he’s about five minutes from waking up.
You reach over, and take his hand despite the fact that it’s shaking. He tries to pull away; it lasts all of a few seconds before he relents and goes limp.
You guide his fingers to rest on your stomach. Even though he has full control over Decay, you know he’s still nervous sometimes. Around you. Around delicate things. Around things that are important to him.
Obviously, your child is nowhere even near developed enough yet for Tomura to feel any movement. That’s okay. Just the placement of where you’ve set his hand is sufficiently symbolic for it to start sinking in.
He cuts off a sob by choking on it. With no hesitation at all, he pulls you in and holds you as though he fully intends to never let go.
And for this moment, this is enough.
I don’t pretend to know the challenges you’re facing the worlds you keep erasing and creating in your mind but I’m not afraid I know who I married so long as you come home at the end of the day that would be enough we don’t need a legacy; we don’t need money if I could grant you peace of mind if you could let me inside your heart oh, let me be a part of the narrative in the story they will write someday let this moment be the first chapter where you decide to stay and I could be enough and we could be enough that would be enough.
