Sonic Forces Speculation
So I posted this on four YouTube videos yesterday, trying to get different opinions on it. That didn't quite work, but I think I'll expand upon it here; see if anyone cares. Two theories: The boring one: The new villain is aiding Eggman and brought villians from across time and space to help him. (Could also explain why we see the stages so close together if he's bending time and space). This is a predictable move they've done before. If they did this I'd need some good reasoning as to why Eggman screws with time and space again after it went so well in Generations. I'd like to see the relation to the new villain and the time eater, because if this right there probably is at least a little. The unrealistic one: While Sonic is opposing Eggman with his friends another group is also facing off against him. Rather a group that wants power for their own, lead by the new guy. Though why Shadow and Chaos would turn evil again, and Metal against his master again would need explanation, it could be interesting. But kinda unlikely. It could explain why there was a change from join the resistance to join the uprising in this trailer. Here's where this one really goes off the rails. What if you could chose which faction to side with? With the create-a-character. They could have the levels of the Sonics taken over by Shadow and Metal Sonic, or just have the avatar take a different set of levels while the dialogue changes for the Sonics to reflect (s)he isn't there. There's a lot of things they can do with this set up. I look forward to seeing it fleshed out. I hope they take s bit more if a nuanced angle to the story this time. I'm not saying a pretentious self glorifying story. Just something a bit more. Regardless of the angle they take, from the set up it looks like they are trying to give us that.
