Do you have any thoughts on Sonic's alternate colors in Smash Bros. being as similar as they are? Are there any color schemes you'd like to see added?
It's just branding restrictions, unfortunately. A few of the guest characters (Pac-man, the FF7 guys) all suffer in that they aren't allowed to have much in the way of different colors.
It's dumb, and I will stand by it being dumb. These companies are terrified of their brands losing identity and it just ends up boring. Because, like... Sonic Colors had the Sonic Simulator, didn't it?
It's fine letting Sonic be green, or yellow, or red, or whatever. Instead, in Smash, all you get is seven shades of blue and one that's black. It's boring and rigid and very clearly Marketing.
I think just giving Sonic his simulator colors would be good enough for me.
