Of all the attempts by fans to replicate the 2D Sonic physics into 3D, which project do you think does it best? (Personally, mine is Sonic Utopia but I think most of them do at least one thing right)
I think Sonic Utopia is pretty good at that, yeah. It’s floaty enough without being too floaty – you get just enough height from ramps and jumps without soaring over too much of the level geometry.
I’ve heard some people complain that Sonic GT is a little too floaty, but honestly I don’t mind, because that’s also just… true to how Sonic physics would work in 3D. You get a LOT of height in those Genesis games if you find the right ramp, it’s just 3D spaces highlight just how much height that would actually be.
It also just kind of makes sense for a character that can run up the sides of walls and stuff. Sonic’s supposed to kind of be weightless, a little bit, and some people get too caught up in how much of the stage they’re “missing” by taking a ramp.
Project Hero felt really good, too. But everything in Project Hero’s test level feels really good. I’m just curious how well that would work in a real level. Beatz on Youtube has done some work hacking Unity games and has imported Windmill Isle Act 1 in to Project Hero, and it definitely seems interesting, but you can tell the camera has trouble, and he added rings to skip level design elements Hero doesn’t seem to work very well with.
None of this tells us what a Hero-native level will play like, of course, which will be designed with these ideas (limitations?) in mind, but it’s an interesting glimpse at what could be.
I should say that my honourable mention for favourite sonic game goes to the a fangame called Sonic Utopia. Right now there's a demo out with only one playable level, but the developers are doing what they can to take classic sonic's physics and make it work in 3D and in doing so, the demo level is the most fun I have EVER had with a 3D platformer!
Oooh, that’s so cool! Know where we can find it?

Do you think there should be an open-world Sonic game?
I’m not personally a huge fan of open-world games, but it could be an interesting experiment.
Since the world loves Sonic the Hedgehog again, thanks to Sonic Mania, do you believe that people are gonna go back to shitting on Sonic after Sonic Forces gets released?
I feel like that WILL happen. I’m honestly NOT looking forward to Sonic Forces.
Why? Mainly because of it’s bland/lazy/laughable “Level Design”, And the characters in the cutscenes being lifeless for the most part, And i’m honestly not a fan of the Boost gameplay.
I strongly and firmly believe that Modern Sonic CAN be great.(Maybe even as great as Classic Sonic.) But Sega just keeps making so many bad decissions with Modern Sonic.
I honestly prefer Classic Sonic over Modern Sonic, but I think Modern Sonic can be great as well. They just need to give him a better voice actor and make his gameplay be more like a 3D version of Classic Sonic. (Basically what if either Green Hill Paradise: Act 2 or Sonic Utopia was an official game.)
Played some Sonic Utopia, got me in the mood to draw Classic Sonic
So, I was listening to the Green Hill Zone remix for the fanmade game “Sonic Utopia”, and I felt the incredible urge to draw a scene. I also thought it would be a great chance to test out the brush tool for the first time.
