This is a mix that I have had on my mind for a while - the idea is that I wanted to look at jungle from a hardcore perspective, so basically all of these records are 1994/1995 jungle tracks with a hardcore connection. Jungle from hardcore producers, jungle released on hardcore labels, jungle remixes of hardcore tunes ... basically it's a lot of fun! The limitation was that I didn't want to include tracks from labels or producers that started in hardcore and then went on to be jungle/drum n' bass oriented, unless it was a remix of a hardcore tune.

Sure, it's a bit of an esoteric theme, but tune-wise it's a great laugh, and it actually holds together very nicely as a mix.

D.A.V.E. The Drummer, one of the true heroes of the London underground acid techno scene ...

This mix mostly focuses on Henry’s acid techno releases, with some techno sprinkled through to break up the 303 mayhem. I guess I would need to double-check, but pretty much everything on this mix is from the 1990’s, when these sounds were rocking the London squat party scene ...

I’ve tried to chop things up nicely throughout the mix, with some techno bits to break up the 303 madness, and obscurities to balance the anthems ... I’ve also tried to use my own style of mixing throughout, with plenty of cuts, and quick mixes interspersed with long fades, plus sudden dramatic switches and so on ...

So here we are, halfway through February and no sign of the pace slacking (yet).

For this seventh mix, I've devised a little 15 track jaunt through some recent(ish) bass-related vinyl acquisitions of mine. The idea was to really mix things up along the way, so you get a full palette of 130-140 bpm sounds, with grime, dubstep, jungle, rave, and breaks flavors featured throughout the mix.

Make no mistake, this is a techno mix – I wouldn’t say that it is a pure electro mix at all, by any stretch of the imagination ... (but) this is definitely an electro-techno mix, or at least it contains a lot of tracks from the early 2000’s that feature chunky snares, robotic voices and general electro buzzery. Eventually this sound would get co-opted by commercial house producers, who would inflict on the world untold amounts of god-awful electro house.

But that doesn’t mean that these tunes suck!
