How painfully ironic it was, to be sent on a mission to Sinnoh but on the wrong damn side of the continent from being able to visit his family. He couldn’t tell them he was here, his sister would flip. It was supposed to be a quick in and out mission too. He sighed, looking into the nearby river. He did so want to see them, but his time here wouldn’t stretch long enough to trek to the other side of Mt. Coronet and back.
As he tried to settle on the shore and watch some of the buizel in the river, some of the ground crumbled beneath his feet. It caught him by surprised and before he could do anything he’d tumbled into the river itself. Panic quickly gripped him as his arms thrashed about, yelling out whenever he happened to break the surface and trying to hold his breath when his head went under.
Before long, he felt something wrap around his waist and then there was yelling, though he didn’t quite catch what it was. He was just incredibly thankful someone spotted him and came to his rescue. He felt that he was being dragged onto shore and he started to cough up water that he had accidentally swallowed as he was released from his savior’s hold.
After he recovered, he looked up to thank whoever it was that had dived in to save him and.. his words got stuck as he fell into shock at who exactly it was. Ruby. He kind of just sat there dumbfounded before he could think of anything to even say. It’d been so long since he’d even seen him. What was he doing in Sinnoh..?
“I-.. R-ruby. Thank you,” he wheezed a bit, still out of breath. He hung his head. “I.. I c-can’t swim.”
