word count. 1.2k summary. y/n, azora, and kenma get settled in at decalis academy, but it seems that someone is keeping an eye on them. meanwhile, ambrose is nowhere to be found.
βTo be frank, we weren't expecting you so soon.β The receptionist tells her, typing away at her computer. She leans forward, peering at Y/N and her trunks before raising an eyebrow to the girl. βThis is all yours?β The woman questions, and Y/N furrows her eyebrows, before eyes widening in realization, nodding quickly. The woman once-overs her yet again before pushing up her glasses and typing again on her computer.
It had slipped Y/Nβs mind that nobody else could actually see Azora and Kenma, and Ambrose as usual was nowhere to be found. The luggage wasn't just theirs, but they requests for three extra cots(βI move alot in my sleepβ¦.a lot.β) Already had Miss Receptionist eyeing her like she was insane. The aforementioned women stood, holding a key card. βRight this way,β She commanded. βAnd don't worry about the bags, someone will bring them up for you.β Y/N stills for a second, looking at the bags then back at the lady. Slowly, Y/N trailed behind her, with Azora and Kenma(both of which had been very quiet through the whole exchange) following behind her.
The woman explains that Decalis Academy is a night school, with classes starting at 9pm and ending at 2am. Behind her, Kenma chuckles, whispering something to Azora. She would turn around to see what was so funny, but the main rule of Azora and Kenma being their phantom companions was that she wasn't allowed to acknowledge them in public.
βWe prepared your room despite your earliness, and also were able to bring in the mattresses, like you asked.β At that, the woman side-eyes her, as if waiting for an explanation, but Y/N smiles and thanks her with a bow. Huffing, the receptionist turns back around and continues to lead her to the room. Before they turn the corner, a pair catches she eye, and she turns her head to look at them. A tall boy with golden feline-like eyes and a girl with brown and pink hair, talking softly in the corner of the corridors. She stops, staring at the pair(specifically the girlβ¦) for a second too long. βYoung lady!β The woman calls her, and she turns to face her, shocked. βIs something the matter that is stopping you from following me to your room? You are welcome to explore campus after you are settled. Embarrassing, Y/N thinks as she apologizes. Still, she spares one more glance towards the pair, and is unsettled, not by the fact that the golden eyed boy is staring in their direction, but at the fact that the boy seemed to be staring directly at where Azora was standing. Without another second, Y/N hurries down the corridor to catch up with the woman.
Y/N had taken the womanβs offer to explore after they showered briefly, changing their days-old clothes after their long trip. Though it wasn't cold, Y/N picked out an oversized cardigan, long blue jeans and a beanie to keep their head warm. Azora and Kenma both accompanied them, of course, with Azora wearing something akin to what could only be considered casual business attire, while Kenma took a rather lax approach, throwing on a hoodie over his clothes and giving them a thumbs up.
The school was certainly huge, insanely huge, and after fige minutes the trio concluded they had walked around in a circle three times. When they entered the library, Azoraβs jaw went slack, eyes widening at the large(humongous*)assortment of books, running off from the group.
βI wonder if they have food anywhere here.β Kenma grumbled.
βI think we've missed their version of breakfast, but I'm sure we'll find you something to eat, Ken-Ken.β Y/N ruffled his hair, and he rolled his eyes, stuffing his hands in his pockets. Y/N laughed softly at his antics as Azora ran back up to the group, stack of books in their arms. Eyes widening towards the phantom, Y/N frowned at Azora. Bad part of not appearing to anyone besides Y/N in public? Not only did they look insane talking to either phantoms, but things appeared to float around them, when in reality it was Azora or Kenma holding something near them.
βYou guys, they have books about mermaids and werewolves and witches-β Azora starts, and Kenma gives them a cold glare that stops them in their tracks.
βYou do realize nobody else could see us, right? And that it now appears that a stack of books floated their way over to Y/N like this is Harry Potter?β Kenma demanded of Azora. Azora, however, rolled their eyes, doing a simple flourish with their hand.
βNow it's fine, people can see me.β They reasoned, and both Kenma and Y/N widened their eyes at the redhead.
βYes, now they can see a hard-to-miss redhead carrying a bunch of books who doesn't go to this school at all, so now you're trespassing.β Kenma crossed his arms, and Azora rolled their eyes, snapping their fingers before stomping off, grumbling and muttering under their breath. βI swear, Ambrose needs to get here soon, or i'm gonna strangle Zora in an alley.β
βAren't you two already dead though?β
Azora joined them, and they ventured outside. Their sports field(βNightball is the sport we play.β The receptionist had told them earlier.) was insanely large. As they stood on the outskirts of the field, it appears that a few players were practicing.
βLook, it's that boy again.β Azora whispered, gripping their arm tighter then usual. Y/N looked over to the direction Azora was gesturing to, and that boy infront was there. The same girl they had seen earlier was there too, holding a bunch of water bottles. One after another, seven boys (including the golden-eyed boy from earlier) surrounded her.
βThey aren't human.β Kenma said suddenly, sending chills down Y/Nβs back. Kenma was the one who had known Ambrose was a demon, and had called it every time they bumped into a non-human creature. He claims that was the reason he had found Y/N, their aura being stronger than most despite their young(at the time) age, it led him straight to them. The two of them looked at him, waiting for more comment, but he shook his head. βAnd he's looking right at Azora.β Immediately, Y/Nβs eyes looked back over to the boy, who was staring right in their direction, but his eyes were focused in the spot where Azora was standing. Not only that, but the six other boys with him turned to look in Azoraβs direction. Then, the golden-eyed boy eyes landed on them, and like muscle memory, those six pairs of eyes followed.
βCome on, let's go.β Kenma said, tugging on Y/N cardigan. They nodded, turning swiftly and going back to the library, ignoring the feeling of eight pairs of eyes following.
A/N. back after.....who was counting how long i was gon anyways? doesnt matter,, im back and we better then ever!! i did make a few small changes,, but nothing really big,, you know?
