Loooove the extra angst of them both being with other people when they meet again (and lol, Jaime Parent Trapping them anyway - actually more accurate to the plot of The Parent Trap, tbh. Evil blonde girlfriends who must be vanquished via small lizards and whatnot). Omg, okay, I love Carlos feeling guilty and weird and gross about it because clearly Jannik has moved on with his beautiful blond girlfriend who's in Jannik's box and in his speech and who can speak German with Jannik's family 😭😭😭.
Meanwhile Jannik HAS NOT moved on but tells himself the fact that he's never felt anything like he did with Carlos is down to Carlos and he being each other's first loves, being young. And yet he's like vibrating with jealousy when he sees Gerebito!! Ooooh, I LOVE him recognizing Gerebito immediately and all he can think about is the pictures on Carlos's Insta that he saw thru Mark's account!! He haaates that guy and Gerebito literally has no clue.
Imagining that yeah, Carlos has mentioned an ex who played tennis and also maybe in passing maybe to explain something Jaime has said in convo with them both, mentioned that he used to be friends with Jannik Sinner. There's plenty of documentation floating around of baby Carlos and baby Jannik together, so no way to hide that. But crucially Carlos never tells Gerebito that his childhood friend Jannik Sinner IS the who played tennis, because that was never public and German IS a journalist and Carlos still owes Jannik that much, always. And so Gerebito knows that Carlos played juniors and is still vaguely friendly with some people on the ATP tour - I imagine Carlos and Holger had the same childhood friendship in juniors and are still in touch after Carlos and Jannik break up (adding another reason for Jannik and Holger to just never vibe with one another lol). So he just assumes it's a similar thing where Carlos and Jannik were tennis buddies as kids. And maybe without Carlos on tour, Gerebito's sports beat stayed a bit more varied so he's not that invested in the Jannik Sinner lore, so he does not really look into it further.
But Jannik 100% knows who German is and resents him sooo much.
Idk anything about Spanish or European law. But very funny to imagine Carlos and Gerebito's relationship is still ethically dubious because Carlos like, is an lawyer for some professional player's union in a non-tennis sport, because he does have the experience of having been a child athlete and knows about the trials and tribulations of going pro . . . Or maybe he works for the Olympics or something? Or like in the Spanish government agency for sports or something?? Something in that vein though - not tennis but something where Carlos the empath, Carlos with his warmth and charisma, can gain people's trust and get them to listen because hey, he does get how hard this is, he's been there, his family's been there, etc etc.
Anywayyyy, dying at the idea of Carlos seeing Jannik with his girlfriend at some player's lounge thing Jaime made Carlos come with him too. And being like, that should be meeeee. And probably on the other side of the room Jannik blank face but internally like, no, why does he look so good, I want to bite him. And Jaime being like, hey it's Jannik, let's say hi! While Carlos is like I would rather DIE. (They go say hi anyway because Jaime is his baby brother and Carlos can't say no and he is baby Jaime's Designated Chaperon for the night.) And the interaction is probably deranged on all sides while Jannik's girlfriend is like ??? And Jaime is like, isn't this So Nice. Reuniting. Jannik used to visit us allll the time you know. Carlos is five seconds from putting Jaime in a headlock and dragging him out of the room. Jannik is desperate for them not to leave! Also maybe wants to somehow ask if Gerebito is actually Carlos's boyfriend (both possible options not great because if he's not Carlos's boyfriend, why is he basically groping Carlos in joint vacation photos huh????)
