My personal headcanon about this dude

Sorak, aka Saavik's son.

My headcanon is that these

are his parents. And Kirk's look was because he hadn't seen his grandson since he was 7 or 8 years old.

Hence Sorak still is related to Spock (as he is Spock and Kirk's grandson, both by blood - through David - and adoption - through Saavik)

Also fuck the name Sorak its meaning is shit Saavik wouldnt call any kid something that means approximately "from the war"- if she has a kid their name is gonna be Selik, which means "from the soul of the star"

Okay, but Sorak is absolutely serving in The Horns of Nimon. Costume department went off with this outfit.

my main takeaway from the "unification" video is just... (the intended interpretation is) spock really has ANOTHER secret family member we didn't know about, huh?!

(also i don't see any particularly compelling reason to think sorak is necessarily spock & saavik's kid together -- or to take "unification" as necessarily canon if you don't want it to be -- that could totally be saavik's kid whatever other way, or a partner, or idk, platonic lifepartner, or protege, or i don't know, it's not my business, if we got a heck of a lot more saavik & sorak content THEN it'd be my business, yet we remain tragically BEREFT of more saavik content... anyway, i think if it's her kid, it makes sense jimbo is like family to whatever sprog saavik produced but how she produced said sprog, WHATEVER. una mccormick's "autobiography of mr spock" says spock wasn't even having pon farr on the genesis planet, he was having a panic attack bc he'd just been born that morning & w/e, saavik re-taught him vulcan meditation techniques he'd initially taught her, it's all very very suuuuper platonic, if you have a strong preference for reading their relationship that way i recommend u go read that -- anyway, where was i? oh that's right, MORE SPOCK RELATIVES?! c'mon!!!)
