Two more pieces I was commissioned to paint by fantasy author L.L. Stephens - as always, I had an absolute blast!
I took a break from the Ginn Hale books to read this one, that had been on my to-read list for only a few months but just wouldn’t keep sitting there patiently for me to pick it up. Like, it kept signalling me, taunting me. Haunting me. And now I know why. This book is epic! And, oh joy! It’s the first in a series of 6, that is unpublished as of yet but written and finished. The world-building is overwhelming, the amount of characters, places e.a. being introduced is crushing but the main characters and the story are so intriguing that none of it ever discouraged me. This book gripped me from the first page till the last, upon the first read. I need to catch my breath and then dive in it once again ASAP.
Review of Sordaneon by L.L Stevens
A wonderful, must have story and the first in a series.
This is the sort of book so thrilling that I could have raced through it but it is like a very fine wine, something to be savored and relished, slowly and with attention to detail as it is the first in a series I am relieved to say. It is a story that sticks by a reader throughout the day so that when reading time comes around it is with utter joy. Dorillian Sordaneon is the main character and…

Secrets sheathe swords.
A fallen world is littered with the corpses of broken god-machines, and a sheltered, angry youth is destined to re-awaken their power. But to embody a god, Dorilian Sordaneon must first learn to be human….
Dorilian is blood-bound to the Rill, a quasi-living artifact that spans continents and empowers a privileged few to reap the riches of an entire civilization. Unfortunately, decades after seizing control of the remaining god-machines, those privileged few aren’t willing to give up their power — even if it means destroying the human bloodline to which the Rill is tethered.
“Sordaneon” is the first book in a six-book series.

I had the privilege of beta-reading all six books and can honestly say they are terrific! I used to edit and proofread for a MM publisher and this author’s rough drafts are better than most people’s finished copy. There’s a lot of political intrigue, beautifully detailed world-building (including their own mythos), a touch of sci-fi, and well-developed, unforgettable characters.
