Sorano x Mest + Vicious

  It was easy sometimes – too easy – to forget how dangerous Sorano could be when she got serious. Mest had only seen that side of her a handful of times, and as she seemed to delight in keeping him on his toes and teasing most of the time, even he was caught up her light-hearted act most of the time.

   Still, he was surprised when the next time he got to glimpse that other side of her, the one she seemed so determined to hide from the world, it was because of him.

   He’d half-expected their paths to diverge after the war with Alvarez had ended, and she had been pardoned by the Queen, free to make a life for herself, and he still wasn’t sure which of them had reached out first with the tentative idea of doing a job together. A job that had become two, three and then more, even though she was still part of Crime Sorcière, and he was a full member of Fairy Tail again, not that anyone looked twice at cross-Guild partnerships these days. It was hard to have the old boundaries when they had all come together to save Fiore. He was glad of it because even though neither of them had really talked about what they were doing or why they were so reluctant to part ways, he had become…fond of Sorano, even when she seemed to find new ways to drive him up the wall.

   To the point where the moment their job had gone south, he hadn’t thought twice about putting himself between her and the danger, as he tried to get them out of there. He hated leaving a job unfinished, especially one like this which involved information gathering, as the not-knowing would gnaw at him until they could go back and try again, but he didn’t want them to get hurt either, and Sorano was already nursing a gash on her arm, where one of the guards had got a lucky blow in.

   They’d barely started to blur when something cut through the teleport and kept going into his side, and he lost his grip on the spell as he stumbled forward with a cry, pushing Sorano forward and away from their attackers as he fell to his knees. Pain radiated up his side, and when he pressed a hand to his side, he was unsurprised when his fingers came away bloody. “Sorano…” He started, intending to tell her to get away, only for the words to die on his tongue as he got a look at her face. She had turned back to him, probably to yell at him for pushing her, but her eyes were locked on his bloody hand, her hair beginning to stir as magic built in the air around her and he caught the glimmer of coins in her hands. “Don’t…” he whispered, already knowing the words wouldn’t reach her as her attention shifted to whoever was behind, lips drawn up in snarl as she tossed the coins.

“Ten…” Sorano’s hands were together, magic rippling out as Raguel appeared behind her and Mest hastily clapped his hands over his ear as the Angel blew. But his gaze was locked in Sorano, and he saw her lips moving, more coins tossed into the air, and he had a fleeting impression of feathers as another Angel rocketed past him and into their attackers, and he could see her reaching for more. Eyes bright with fury, and he knew that she wasn’t going to stop, that she was vicious in her defence of others where she wouldn’t be if she had been the one attacked, and he forced himself to his feet. Braving the onslaught of Raguel’s horns, and hearing the guards crying out but paying them no mind as he staggered to her, each step sending fresh pain through his side.

“That’s enough,” he told her as soon as he was in reach, soft rather than stern like he’d intended, especially when her eyes flickered towards him, concerned beneath her anger.

“They hurt you.” There was no yield in her voice, no sign that she was ready to heed his words and he sighed, glancing at his side, and then the coins in her hands, and closed the distance between them. One that was more than just physical as he drew her into him, ignoring the half-hearted protest about his side and bloody fingers, and her attempt to shift away to keep an eye on the guards who from the sounds were still being pounded by the second Angel.

“And you stopped them,” he told her, and there was a softening in her expression, and she stopped trying to pull away, looking up at him and ignoring the ongoing fight behind them, and his injuries, he leaned in and kissed her with a whispered. “Thank you.”

Sorano/Mest "Babysitting"

Keeping an eye on the released Oracion Seis – now CrimeSorciere – was more like glorified babysitting than anything else, Mestfelt.  For all that Jellal’s heavy handcould force people into line, it certainly didn’t keep the former dark magesfrom being unruly little shits.  Theycould get into a horrifying amount of trouble, and cleaning up their messesrapidly devolved into a full-time occupation.

Sorano and Erik, in particular, seemed to have it out forMest.  Specifically for him.  Theynever pulled any of the garbage they threw him headlong into on Jellal. Sorano took special delight in torturing him.  Even Erik would get bored eventually, butSorano didn’t seem to know the meaning of “tire”.  (And when Mest suggested that maybe it wasbecause she was actually fond of him, she threw him into an actual pile ofgarbage.)

Children, the lot of them. Overgrown children.

Lahar was surely laughing at him from his grave.

Mest was mildly surprised when Sorano agreed to become a spyfor him, however.  Erik had bombarded himwith questions he couldn’t really answer (and with Erik’s magic, didn’t reallyneed to – the dragon slayer just liked to watch him squirm).  But Sorano… Sorano had agreed almostimmediately, almost before he’d even explained what it would entail.

It was then that Mest moved from babysitting Crime Sorciere,to babysitting Sorano’s work in Alvarez. As much as he could, anyway, without attracting suspicion himself.  She was a fairly dedicated worker, that muchhe could acknowledge after seeing her in action.  Deception was an art form with her.

It made him wonder, just a little, about how much he really knew about her.  How much of the self she displayed was truth,and how much was artifice?

And then, after everything went to hell and back, Mest foundhimself looking for her.

Had to make sure his charge was alright, of course.

Maybe, she’d eventually clue him into who she really was ather heart.

What I love about them: Goddamn this is a funny ship.  I just love the contrasting personalities so much.  Such potential for hilarity.  But also angst, which is also very good.

What I hate about them: I believe you and I were discussing the other day about how it would probably forever be one-sided on Ajeel’s part.  Because while Ajeel has respect for Invel, it’s hard to see Invel holding the same respect for Ajeel.

Stinerva

What I love about them:  I love how, without prompting, and without any indication that it would be of benefit for her later, Minerva saved Lector from her father.  And how Sting was so thoroughly determined to bring her back.  There is a lot of respect between these two, and a lot of protecting on both sides.  Gets me right in the feels man.

What I hate about them:  Oddly this ship isn’t particularly aesthetically pleasing to me.  No clue why, it hits all of the major points I usually go gaga over but for some reason I’m pretty lukewarm to it.

Sorest

What I love about them:  I love how Mest went to her for the spying job, and how readily she agreed to it.  There must be some kind of deep trust and respect there for Sorano to put herself on the line like that.

What I hate about them:  This would be a pretty unbalanced ship.  I think Sorano would hold all the power here.  Mest would get dragged around by his nose.

Mest/Sorano as Hustlers AU?

Mest was about ready to start pulling his hair out in frustration over his current case.  He’d been unable to apprehend the hustler he was chasing, no matter what trick he tried - she always seemed at least three or four steps ahead of his grasping hands, leaving him taunting little notes in her wake so he knew exactly how close he’d almost been to catching her.

If he didn’t know any better, he’d say she was flirting with him - but that was just impossible.
