fucked up bad today when I forgot that I am doing only a final exam (not a midterm) in one of my classes and sent all my students in that class a link to sign up for a midterm oral exam slot
The other teachers in the department are sharing their slide decks that are full of cute little Bitmoji backgrounds and avatars:
Meanwhile, I'm over here like
I’m supposed to be getting my summer classes ready to open tomorrow but instead I’m watching hockey
tfw you assign a long "must-read" novel before you've actually finished reading it yourself . . . then finish it and discover it contains a rather explicit sex scene
Reason #734 why I became an English Instructor:
So that when a mysterious, unidentified insect decides to crash my 9:30 Business Writing course, I can make puns about being an etymologist instead of an entomologist.

Writing a composition syllabus. Like I do every year. Well, most years I revise. This year I am scrapping and starting over. I’ll be using a textbook for the first time. I sort of hate myself. Being a professor whose readings can all be found on JSTOR has always been a point of pride, and my own little vengeance for the hundreds of dollars I’ve spent on textbooks. And here I am, using the Norton. I’m writing an intro to lit syllabus next, and I’m going to see if I can pull all the readings from Project Gutenberg. This will be tricky when we get into modern stuff. Maybe throw things on reserve in the library and make sure people know they’re available there.
