When Tool brought their album's (10,000 Days) mix to Bob Ludwig, Bob heard the mix, appreciated it, and mentioned 'too bad there was a floor tom lug loose'. And he made them (the band) understand why he said that by amplifying that part of the recording.

Wow! To hear a recording and from that alone comment that the drum kit had a loose bolt/lug. That is some level of awareness/hearing. No wonder he is a legendary name. Excellence.

Ways To Keep Your Sound Engineer Happy

If it is your first time working in a true club, there are a few people that you will get to know on your first night.  One of them is of course the manager or promoter.  These are the guys that will book you and tell you what you can and cannot do – but they are not responsible for actually doing anything.  It is the stage hands and the engineers who get the party started, and they are the ones responsible for running things on the ground floor.  If the club is legit, they will also have an in-house sound engineer who will level off each DJ to ensure that multiple DJs playing at the club do not interfere with each other.
