OMG I ADORE IT. This is amazing!! I Am AMazed!

The crunchy-rolling texture of the lines is soooo perfect for the look and vibe of the physical details--the fancy rug! Stephen's [via La Mothe] fancy frilly floopy nightshirt!! Jack's long rumpled hair vs. Stephen's spiky short hair!!!

And the character emotions are so deftly woven in to those expressions and postures! Jack's utter heart eyes, Stephen's guilt and despair in his body, hands, head.

This is spectacular and it feels like the story, and now my head has these images to devour and savor. THANK YOU!!

16. What is the most over-hyped book you read this year?

I don't know that I'm aware enough of hype to answer this! Here's a very me way of answering this question: when I was looking into John Dickson Carr's impossible crime books, I saw The Hollow Man (US title: The Three Coffins) called his best over and over, the "ultimate" locked room murder, and I don't think that's true! It's certainly good, but the man put an impossible crime in nearly every one of his many, many books. I think some of them are better.

17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

The aforementioned Carrs, haha. The man could write! I also read Margery Allingham's very first book, 1927's The White Cottage Mystery, and it was excellent. A great mystery writer right out of the gate.

22. What’s the longest book you read?

According to storygraph, it's A Suitable Stray (For an Outguard and an Assistant) by R. Cooper (which I can believe, because it's the entry in the series that made me think "this could use a meaner editor"), but because digital page counts can be weird, I'm also going to include Nora Roberts' Sanctuary, which I remember commenting on at the time I read it because it has like 4 romances crammed into it. AND a serial killer.
