The nerdy part of me is very into expressive digital instruments lately. It is the ultimate blend of two of my passions, interaction design and music. I’ve been watching a lot of video’s about Roli’s Seaboard, the Linnstrument by digital music pioneer Roger Linn and the Madrona Labs’ Sounplane. I think that the rise of MPE or ‘Multidimensional Polyphonic Expression’ where every note can be tweaked individually by gestures just like you know from guitars or violins is going to be one of the most interesting developments in digital music. Since many of these solutions are still pricey I’m planning to build my own instrument.
While researching the world of expressive intruments recently, I came across the Touché by Expressive E. A controller that can be used to expressively modulate the sound of a traditional controller or synth! Cool stuff.
