Soundtracked 21: No Savior
Soundtracked 22 was going to be a big show. We decided to give an apocalyptic theme to our fall promotions, building up to that date. Erin had created a zombie-themed movie poster for Soundtracked 20 featuring the members of Broken Arts. We titled Soundtracked 21 No Savior as we continued the loose story but mostly the night was spent painting Christmas ornaments in a decidedly un-apocalyptic mood.
Soundtracked 21: No Savior November 12, 2011 @ The Garden Grove live: Elephant Shoes Stranded Cruiser Terror Lake with: Christmas ornament painting Broken Arts lineup: Harley, Lori-Anne, Defne, Erin, Ashley
Terror Lake were a garage rock trio from Toronto and friends of Persian Rugs' whom we had heard good things about, Stranded Cruiser were a local pop punk band that had been asking to play a Broken Arts show for a while, and we invited Elephant Shoes (with new drummer) back to play an electric set. We brought back the video projector we had debuted at Volume 18 and projected Christmas videos over the bands.
It would wind up being our final show at The Garden Grove. Unlisted expenses in their rental contract and a location next to a car garage were making it difficult to keep afloat. They tried to find a new location downtown but rental costs there were even more unreasonable and ultimately they closed their doors altogether. We were heartbroken to lose them but thankful that we had Mad Café as our new home. There was worry from some people that being back to just one venue and that venue being a café would limit us in terms of what we could do. Would we have to rely on just quieter pop and folk acts? Would there be no more room for drums, garage rock, or loud noise? Our next show would answer those questions definitively.
