I love the southern tradition of painting their porch ceilings "haint blue." It is believed to keep the evil spirits away. ..and the mosquitos! Southern Pecan Pralines are a classic Southern candy that combines the rich flavors of caramelized sugar and pecans. These sweet and nutty pralines make for a delicious treat, perfect for sharing or as a homemade gift.
Ingredients: 1 cup granulated sugar. 1 cup light brown sugar. 1/2 cup heavy cream. 1/4 cup unsalted butter. 2 cups pecan halves. 1 tsp vanilla extract. 1/4 tsp salt.
Instructions: Prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, light brown sugar, heavy cream, and unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture reaches 240F 115C on a candy thermometer. This should take about 10-12 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat and quickly stir in the pecan halves, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until well combined. Working quickly, drop spoonfuls of the praline mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. You can use a regular spoon or an ice cream scoop for this. Allow the pralines to cool and harden at room temperature for about 20-30 minutes. Once the pralines have hardened, you can enjoy them as a delightful Southern treat!

My Great-Grandmother Clara (for whom I'm named) made a cake every week for Sunday visitors. I did the same for sweet friends today with her @cocacola Chocolate Pound Cake. 💗🍰#FamilyRecipes #SouthernTraditions #PoeMill #GvlToday #YeahThatGreenville #GreenvilleSC #CocaCola #HaveACokeAndASmile (at The Rivers EDGE) https://www.instagram.com/p/CC1s2VJDi2C/?igshid=1x1un0b8ybmcn

//•𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 Every New Year's we Southerners break out our traditions to ensure the new year brings us all the best things in life. One of my favorite traditions is the eating of black eyed peas. Of course collard greens and fried chicken accompanied this wonderful meal, but my mother always told me that eating black eyed peas on the first day of the new year would ensure that I had prosperity throughout the year. I would pile my plate up with peas because I wanted to make sure I was prosperous all year! This tradition has become one of my favorites and I'm not sure if black eyed peas truly bring prosperity or not because I am always blessed but this tradition is one that brings family together at the new year for a delicious meal. It is a chance for us to fellowship, plan the year, and reminisce on the old. We take pictures, small videos, selfies, and all the memorabilia we need to reflect on in the coming years. And, if eating black eyed peas really is contingent on how many pennies I'll have throughout the year; let's just say next year I'll be asking for a bigger plate 🤗 Why the new year's story in April? Well, I woke up this morning reflecting on my year so far and all the blessings that continuously flow. Feeling grateful for my Family, my Friends, my Love and those around me who continuously protect my energy and pour nothing but encouragement into my soul. I wish you ALL a tribe as beautiful as mine. 🌿 *𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐠𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐬.
