annomi & kankri must be terrible people to watch movies with, wonder why ajax chooses to hang with them lol

This is the point actually! They’re terrible to watch movies with, and this is exactly why they watch movies together. 

I should probably explain this a bit more. 

For context, by the time they’re a friend group, they all know each other in person. Friend groups in person are very different in some ways than friend groups online. People are willing to put up with a lot more shit.

The way the chemistry of their friend group works, they can bicker and bitch and get mad at each other over movies because it ultimately doesn't matter. It’s not friendship-ruining and the movies they watch together tend to get picked knowing that half the time they watch it they’re not really gonna absorb the contents on a meaningful level. 

Ajax knows his B-movies so he adapted quickly. The group can spend the movie collectively ribbing on it and each other and eventually someone will say something so stupid that they all lose their shit. It’s a surprisingly great time for them. 

On a sidenote, though Kankri may seem like the least likely part of the equation, directing his frustrations at something as asinine as shitty movies that don’t take themselves seriously is actually pretty good for him. 

All 3 of them are wrong about movies in vastly different ways but ultimately it’s kind of cathartic anyways. They don’t hate each other in any meaningful way, they just get on each others’ nerves sometimes. 

As for why Ajax chose to hang out with them to begin with, there’s a sprinkle of spite in there. He actually tends to gravitate towards people who are commonly considered irritating or insufferable.

If you tell him not to talk to somebody because they’ll talk his ear off for the next 3 hours or because they’re annoying or generally unpleasant he’s already tapped out the moment you started telling him who he can and can’t hang out with and he’s gonna do exactly the opposite of what you told him to do. 

For genuine better or for genuine worse that’s how he makes a lot of his friends.
