Sleep had come easy to the man. Always had.
However, when he had grown used to sleeping next to someone, it was noticeable when their presence didn’t appear. While he had slept decently through the night, he figured that Larxene had only slept for a few hours, if even that. Most of the time she wasn’t in bed either. Waking up, Snow found himself alone, at an unusually early hour of the morning. Too bad, he had wanted to sleep in, but he wouldn’t push himself too.
Pushing himself out of bed, or at least sitting up, he stretched, before throwing his legs over the side of the bed. Bare hands pressed against his knees, barely dressed at all, wearing only a light muscle shirt, and boxers. It had been hot recently, and this was the only way he could sleep. Larxene didn’t like it when he slept nude, so he didn’t do it unless it was sweltering. A hand reached up and ruffled his hair, shaking the blond locks around, before looking about for her. He didn’t see her in the room, so he figured she might be elsewhere.
The last few months had been hard on the two of them, especially when she had unfortunately lost their child. He didn’t blame her, not in the slightest, but she seemed to have believed he should have. He never understood why, though he battled it consistently. There was no way he could think it was her fault, no matter what Karma she spoke of. He knew that sometimes, these things just happened. But she had been changed because of it. And he was scared for her. Scared she might lose herself, and sometimes, it seemed like she had. The woman’s eyes seemed broken at times, and that scared him more than anything else.
With that in mind, he suddenly had the need to find her. To make sure she was alright. He didn’t rush though, not wishing to cause a panic if everything was perfectly fine. Pushing himself up from the bed, he stretched again, arching his back in the sunlight as it warmed him, despite the fact it was a chilly morning. Maybe things would be alright today. A thought in his mind that he figured was the best thing to keep there. He and his little lightning bug needed a few good days. It was a shame they didn’t have more, but they had been through a big shock, and that always painted the world a little darker than it needed to be, even for an optimist like Snow.
Making his way out of the bedroom, he ventured down the hall, Frosty hues flickering lightly as he let them adjust to the different levels of light, only to find her at the kitchen table, with a cup of coffee. He offered a slight smile, before realizing she was drinking coffee. Larxene never drank coffee, she said it was too bitter. His head lifted as she gave him a mumbled ‘Good morning’, regarding her curiously for a moment before returning it. He moved to grip the pot of coffee, and pour himself a mug, already beginning before she spoke. That statement woke him up.
Wide-eyed, he looked up at her, as if unsure of what she said, only to pour scalding hot coffee on his hand. “WOAH!” he yelped, jumping a bit and setting the coffee down, wiping off his hand before looking to her, his smile wider than it had been in a long time. “Did…you say you were pregnant?” He questioned, before going over to her. He lifted her straight out of the chair (him being far taller than she was), and hugged her tight, kissing her cheeks over and over. He stumbled over words, barely able to speak as he held her, his excitement bubbling over so early in the morning. The message was clear though. He was overjoyed.
|[~♜~]|: Larxene couldn't help but wince a bit as she saw the scalding hot beverage pour all over the back of his hand. Shit. Much like tact, timing for benevolent purposes had never been her specialty either. I swear to fucking God if he burned himself because of-- But that grin sent her way instantly cut that thought off.
Enthusiastic, joyful, optimistic -- those were the things she saw in his expression. And those were all the things that had won her over in the first place. No matter how hard she'd tried to push him away, he'd just flash her that wide smile and take her foul attitude in stride. Looking back on it now, it was almost funny how something so simple as that had so radically shaken her to her core. (Of course, she'd never admitted as much back then). Right now, though, that smile seemed brighter than she ever remembered it being. But maybe that was because the Nymph hadn't seen it in so long.
Snow had handled her miscarriage at lot better than she had, sure, but she knew the ordeal had taken its toll on him, though it wasn't because he was crushed like she had been. Well, no, he had been quite upset at the news, but he hadn't despaired as much as she had. And Larxene suspected that the dark place she had gone to was why his optimism had noticeably weakened. In recent days, she mentally kicked herself for it, for causing him more concern and stress than was necessary. She may have opened up a lot when Snow had become a part of her life, but she'd never lost that independent streak of hers; she still had a hard time accepting that he was going to worry about her whether she liked it or not.
But the Nymph didn't think about how pathetic it had been of her to make him so concerned for her at that moment. No, she was just happy to see that familiar, warm smile on his face, which she found herself reflecting back at him in full.
She opened her mouth to respond with a teasing remark -- something along the lines of 'Well, seeing as you managed to miss the mug entirely and ended up giving your hand a coffee bath, I guess so' -- but he lifted out of her chair, as if she weighed no more than a doll, before she could even let her words take form on her lips.
Snow had always expressed how he had wanted a family of his own, but she'd never quite understood why. Or maybe she had, but she had never known the intensity of longing. But the way he couldn't even form a coherent sentence out of excitement, the way he kissed her cheeks with such elation, showed her just how sincerely he wanted this child. And to her own surprise, she found herself feeling just as jubilant as he was.
Any anxiety she'd felt over her pregnancy vanished as she embraced him back, laughing breathily as joyful tears blurred her vision.
Maybe there was hope for them yet.
