//I hope you all are well, if you’ll even see this.
I changed a lot in 5 years. I got better at writing. Understanding people. Navigating “adulthood.” And I probably will never come back to this blog for rp, but it feels weird not having any kind of closure? Humor me. (I may also decide to try, but I haven’t seen any activity from any of the muns I used to interact with, so I think me trying again would be in vain. I also would have to rework some of my headcanons, as I am a far more developed writer than I was at 17/18 lol.)
Things I learned that, maybe, will help you (whoever that may be):
Don’t take shit from anyone. Seriously. Confrontation is hard, but for your own sanity and health, do it. It may suck in the moment, but it will always be worth it later
Confrontation DOESN’T have to be aggressive. Confrontation can literally be “hey, you’re my friend and I had a concern. Can we talk?” It doesn’t have to be I’m gonna give this person a piece of my mind. It can be as simple as just talking about a concern or problem and working things out. Relationships don’t have to be a fight.
There are some things you don’t compromise on. Your health, mental or physical, is one of those things.
You don’t need to feel sorry about your mental/physical health. If they can’t or don’t want to understand, fuck em. You don’t need people like that.
But also, try to push your boundaries where you can for the things or people you feel are worth it. Do it when you have the energy for it, and don’t overdo it. Do it when you feel that you have it in you to give whatever it is a try. While people should accept you for who you are, never stop trying to be better. Stagnation is never good.
Don’t be too quick to jump to conclusions. Sometimes, you’re just anxious and someone thinks a completely different way than you do, and it’s hard to understand.
COMMUNICATE. Honestly if you disregarded the rest of this list and just took this, I would be happy. And don’t just say whatever is on your mind -- communicate constructively. Communicate with a calm head. Just don’t ever stop doing it.
Pick your battles. Some just aren’t worth your energy or time. If it’s a battle that will result in no change on either side, don’t have it.
Accept that some things will always be out of your control. We can’t control everything, and that’s okay. Some things are honestly better that way.
Your emotions are very real -- but sometimes they are in response to something that isn’t. Try to understand where your emotions are coming from at their core (because sometimes you think its one thing and its another), and try not to get lost in them.
Be patient with yourself. Always. If you struggle with that, ask yourself this: would you expect someone else to do whatever you’re trying to do this fast? If the answer is yes, check with other people to confirm that your view is realistic. (Sometimes our standards for ourselves and others is actually too high, and we need a reality check.)
It is okay to cut toxic people out of your life. It is okay to call the police if it someone hurts you, or there is violence. Don’t make the mistake of trying to maintain the status quo like I did. You will regret it.
It is okay to feel like shit and miss said toxic person or people. Especially if they’re someone you’ve known your whole life. It is okay for that choice to hurt at first, even if it shouldn’t. I promise you will be better off in the long term.
Don’t make a decision at any emotional extreme -- good or bad. Make decisions with a cool head, always.
Don’t let your hurt or anger bleed on to other people. Don’t let it make you bitter. That’s exactly what it wants -- to spread and infect everyone. Don’t let it.
There’s a bunch of other stuff that would help, but I feel like it’s a little specific. I hope any of this is useful.
❝ You are not wrong, little fruit fly. Torture does horrible things to the mind -- fear is a stronger emotion than people give it credit for. And yes, they all do, eventually. It’s rather satisfying to watch. ❞
Reblog if your muse is just horrible and should be locked in a cage that has 4 different locks with 4 different passwords and should not be petted at all.
