Jefferson & Grace + second curse

The clouds could already be seen rolling in; first the green mist coming from all sides of the forest and slowly creeping under the door, then the familiar purple smoke he could remember enveloping him while he had been working at his desk in Wonderland.

"It's going to be just fine," he promised, holding her tight and trying to believe those words himself. There was no telling what the green would have done to them but the last time, the purple smoke had caused him to be pulled further away from what he loved most. His Grace had forgotten him.

Closing his eyes and holding his daughter just a fraction tighter, Jefferson shut his eyes as the smoke engulfed them.

The first sensation to return was the weight in his arms then came the scents surrounding them. Taking a chance, he opened his eyes and relaxed when they landed on the form of his daughter before drifting to their surroundings.

Breathing a sigh of relief, he lightly rubbed her back. "It's okay, Gracie, we're home."

"You look very…" Emma stops, pursing her lips and crossing her arms. She snorts, coughs, and Killian smiles morosely at her, shaking his head in mockery.

"He gave it to me, I have to wear it," he says, trying to stretch the sweater another bit: it has an horrible Christmas pattern with bright reds and greens, decorated with reindeers and Christmas trees.

Emma covers her mouth with her hand, giving him a long look from the feet to the head. “Yeah, probably” she sniggers. “At least it isn’t cursed.”

Killian stares at her for a moment, lowers his eyes on the sweater and shudders. “Are you sure about that?” 

She laughs and walks to him, taking his head in her hands. "I’m sure," she whispers. He closes his eyes when she kissed him, and Killian shudders again, but for a very different reason.

Ten Fic Thingymajig

In a text post, list ten FICS that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” works, or even all the same pairing or fandom, just the fics that have touched you or that stuck with you somehow. Tag ten friends, including me, so I’ll see your list. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them!

Ante Up, Gundam Wing, Heero/Relena. Gundam Wing was my first fandom, and the first place I ever roleplayed (on angelfire, which was about as easy as you'd expect.) I still reread this one sometimes because it makes me smile and it's a fun, simple story that just makes me happy if I'm in a bad mood.

Their Room, Harry Potter, Draco/Hermione. This was the first Draco/Hermione fic I ever read, and pretty much cemented the fandom pairing for me. (Which is to say, if it had ever happened in canon I probably would've been horrified.) It was also the first long HP fic I had sat down and read (and missed sleep for...) I haven't read it in a long time, so I'm not sure what I'd think of it now, but when I think of my heavily HP years, this is the fic that comes to mind.

Turnabout is Fair Play, Inuyasha, Kagome/InuYasha. The never finished WIP that still haunts me. You have to understand, I was always predominantly a Kagome/Sesshomaru shipper, but this was just so much fun.

A Forfeit of Dreams, Labyrinth, Sarah/Jareth. I reread this one recently, hence the updated link (poor ffnet). It's just tragic and beautiful.

Two Plants and a Girl, Trigun, Knives/Meryl. I always had a hell of a time finding this pairing, which I never wanted to read until I'd read this and then I wanted like 8000X more fic just like this one. 

How & Why, Naruto, Sakura/Gaara. Oh man, psychological warfare as hugging. This is also just one of my favorite Sakura/Gaara authors ever, and honestly I could've used her for more of this list, easy, but then the list would be significantly skewed. 

The Way of the Wind, Naruto, Sakura/Itachi. I've always been a sucker for everyone lives AUs (especially if you actually bother to explore how that would change people and actions). This one does that really well I think. 

Tried and Tested, Teen Titans, Raven/Robin. Every once in a while I think about this fic and just go back and reread it. I don't know why, but that definitely means something.

Amplify, Soul Eater, Maka/Soul. I have to admit, no longer my favorite story by Marshofsleep, but absolutely one that stuck with me and that I still reread (at least certain scenes of) and that gave me so much side inspiration which never actually became fic, fail.

(Sacred) In the Ordinary, Teen Wolf, Stiles/Derek. I just, love love love this world building and the slow build and how realistic things are I guess. 

Lastly, goddamnit, I have been quietly reading fic in fandom for way too long and narrowing it down to ten was kind of ludicrous. (But I did it). Secondly, I do want to see everyone else's! But if you've done it already, then obviously ignore me. Also, I feel like each of these fics has influenced how I write (or how I try to write and fail), but I had trouble putting it into words (after the third time I typed "and just the way that everything and it's everything -- love it") so I gave up. I also didn't even manage to include one of every fandom I've read or currently read in, but some just had a lot that were awesome but didn't super stick with me -- and all of my newer reading fandoms (MCU, OUaT, etc.) I haven't been reading long enough to know what will stick with me.

(ughhh yes I have such a ladyboner for Bucky/Nat)"The mission did not go as planned", Bucky growls into his comm unit. "We need an extraction." A few feet away, Nat fires off a couple of rounds, ducks back in to cover at the returning fire.There's no answer on the comm. "Hello? Winter Soldier and Black Widow requesting extraction, come in." The only response is a flat hiss of static. Swearing, he moves towards the door. Nat crouches low to the ground, and without looking back at Bucky, nods her head towards a flight of stairs on the opposite side of the room. "We need to get to the roof", she says in Russian. Her voice is tight. "Now." Bucky nods once. "Room clear?""Room's clear. Rooftop exit at the top of those stairs." Nat confirms. "Move. Get the door open. I'll get your six." She gestures for him to take point in front of her, and he doesn't hesitate. The exit's eight flights up, and he tries the comm again on each floor. Nothing. Nat's behind him the whole way, covering his back, and when he reaches the top he has to break down the door. It's freezing out, sometime during the night it'd started to snow.The good: They have the best vantage point in the city. The bad: There's no way off this roof unless it's from above. He presses the button on the comm unit hard, frustrated. "Hill. Come in. Come in, goddamn it."Nat's behind him, breathing hard. He turns to tell her he can't get ahold of anyone at SHIELD, and notices how pale she looks. She smiles at him, faintly, and then falls to her knees, hard. There's a damp patch on the right side of her suit. "Natalia? Shit, are you bleeding?!" Bucky rushes towards her to catch her. "'M fine, James," she murmurs with a weak smile. Her eyes flutter closed, and she passes out. "Natalia. Nat! Stay with me, stay with me..." he panics, lowering himself to the ground to cradle her in his arms. The snow's falling harder now, collecting in her hair and on her eyelashes. "Fuck, fuck, fuck. C'mon, Nat, wake up." He presses the button on the comm again frantically. "COME IN. NAT IS DOWN, WE NEED AN EXTRACTION." Silence.

Bucky shifts and pulls one of his sidearms, still holding Natasha in his lap. At least he'll be armed if any stragglers try to come up to the roof. He checks her pulse: weak, thready, but still present, her breathing shallow. A slow trickle of blood leaks from the wound in her right side, pooling on the ground below them, bright red against the newly fallen snow.He brushes the snow from her face, leans down to kiss her. "I'm here, I'm here, don't leave me, Natalia, c'mon..."Just then the comm on Natasha crackles to live. "Black Widow, come in. Come in, Widow. Status report." Bucky grabs at it, tearing it off her uniform. "This is Winter Soldier. My comm was disabled. Nat...Black Widow is down. Requesting extraction immediately."Hill's voice is calm, efficient. "Copy. What's your twenty, Barnes?"Bucky gives her the pertinent information, and she lets them know there's a team en route that should arrive in twenty minutes. "Make it ten. She's losing a lot of blood", he says tightly. "10-4, I'll put the team on double time." Hill says, and the comm goes silent again.Pulling Natasha closer to him gently, mindful of her wound, Bucky kisses her forehead. "They're on their way, Nat. Hang in there a few more minutes. Please. For me. Natalia..." He brushes more snow from her face, trying to keep her warm, dividing his attention between making sure she's still breathing and scanning the sky for the rescue team.

It's probably not difficult to guess that my favorite Marvel character is Natasha. Bucky and Kate Bishop are ranked right after her, though.
