Soups, Stews and Chili - Beans and Peas - Quick and Simple Korean Doenjang Chigae Bean Paste/Tofu Soup A quick, easy, and flavorful dish is this Korean soybean soup with tofu. It balances salty and spicy flavors to entice your taste buds.

Samyang Chacharoni Stir Noodle - South Korea
After the bowel abuse of yesterday’s instant noodles I thought I’d go a bit easier on myself and choose a noodle with a much milder flavour. So let me present to you the ugliness that is Chacharoni by Samyang!
I’ve had another variety of Korean soy bean paste noodle and found it to be pretty tasteless and only of use in the preparation of Chappaguri (review will turn up one day - Google it!).
Samyang’s Chacharoni comes with a big block of thick noodles, some soy bean paste (with the inclusion of olive oil being a massive deal as it is mentioned over and over again on the packaging) and some flake. The flake is a cluster of TVP, cabbage and peas. The sauce immediately turns everything a mucky brown colour which hardly looks appetising.
I really enjoyed the noodles that came with this packet, they had a great chewy consistency and there was plenty of them. They were also much thicker than the usual instant noodle. The garnish was also excellent. Cabbage is always a great inclusion and I also like TVP. The little balls of spongy goodness really added to the dish and I love the texture that they bring.
The sauce was once again a bit underwhelming. When I look at the sauce I instantly think, “this is going to be bloody salty!” but it isn’t. There’s a slight fermented, savoury funk that I quite like but it is ultimately quite bland. I presume the olive oil provided the greasiness rather than any flavour because it certainly didn’t jump out at me. I didn’t dislike these noodles, I just wasn’t bowled over by them. My bowels will be thanking me but my tastebuds are wondering what just happened.
Maybe I just don’t get Korean soy bean paste noodles…
