"There's been some kind of catastrophe here"
Cheshire buys something she saw on Tumblr: round 1
I'm a super big fan of online shopping. That's no secret. But I've been suuuper wary of buying makeup online, unless I know the quality and how it affects my skin beforehand.
That being said, I recently purchased the Galaxy Chic Eyeshadow Palette from BH cosmetics. I had seen a couple of posts about making the rounds on tumblr, and I immediately loved the packaging and overall design of the palette. When I went to the website and saw that its price had dropped from $20 to a mere $12, I clicked that 'purchase now’ button quick as I could. If there's anything I'm a sucker for, it's space shit and sales. Especially space shit on sale that I can order without leaving my house.
Delivery time was average: I ordered on a Wednesday and the package was delivered to my house the following Wednesday.
I didn't take pictures of the unwrapped package because when it was delivered, I wasn't home so I made my husband open it up over the phone and tell me what it looked like. But here was what I saw when I first got home:
Pretty swanky. The body of the palette is that, like, luxe matte finished board that's pretty run of the mill with higher quality makeup brands. It's about the size of a wallet clutch.
But we aren't here for the box, it's the makeup we’re after! Here’s the opened palette:
I'm really excited that it has a mirror because I just broke my other travel mirror and I always do my makeup on transit haha.
At first glance the colours looked amazing. I had already seen a few pictures from other people who had ordered, but it was nice to not be disappointed in person. And the names for all the colours are great (one of the main reasons I ordered this).
Here's a couple closeups:
They're all so pretty! But of course, I had to see if they passed the pigment test. I've been burned too many times by baked eyeshadows that look great in the pot, but powder up and flake away within five minutes once applied, or come out with really subpar pigmentation when applied.
So here's colour swatches for all the shadows. Full disclosure, I used a wet brush to apply these, because that's how I wear all my baked shadows. But I did test about half of them dry so far, and they require a bit of building up, but some out really lovely, just a bit less intense than pictured here.
From left to right:
Sun, Jupiter, Prometheus, Aphroodite, Milky Way, Cosmic, Saturn, Venus, Meteor, Comet, Earth, Neptune, Mercury, Mars, Asteroid, Electra, Moon, and Pluto.
Just a couple of notes on a couple of the colours:
1. Milky Way and Cosmic are pretty similar, but Cosmic has a warmer, more purple tone to it, while Milky Way is cooler.
2.jupiter makes excellent blush
3. Aphrodite is KILLER on the lips if you mix it with bit of clear gold or lip balm. Seriously, it's gorgeous.
4. Venus is my favourite by far. It's so bright! The photo does not do it justice.
5. Pluto and Moon have the same deal as Milky Way and Cosmic: Pluto is a little darker and cooler than Moon. They blend really well together in a smokey eye.
Overall Impression:
I love this palette. It has variety as well as cohesion, a fun theme, quality, high pigmentation, and as far as I can tell, pretty great staying power (I put Venus on my eyes this morning at 7 AM, and there's no signs of fading at 4:30)
Plus, for the price point (on sale for freaking TWELVE DOLLARS right now) it's totally worth it to have a new palette to play around with. I'm probably going to order another one just to show people because I know this one will behalf used up by this time next month :D definitely worth the buy!
(Ps: I'm on mobile so I can't put hyperlinks in the post, but here is the link to the Bh store:)
