Space Echoes - Chapter 9

(TMNT 2003 x OCs fanfiction) This  story takes place in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe (2003)  and begins during The Big Brawl episodes in season 2. Please note that this fanfiction heavily relies on the TMNT 2003 canon episodes. Follow Adrian and  Mizuiro, two original characters, in a series of events happening in  New York during the early 2000s.

Chapter nine : Distraction

in many projects, there is a Guy That Everyone Likes.

he is often quite skilled in his own right, but his main role ends up being Guy That Everyone Likes. running messages between departments gets a lot easier when nobody wants to shoot the messanger. everyone is happier whrn someone they like is in the room, and meetings go smoother when people are enthused about their work, that kind of thing.

grace was one of these guys.

i dont know when or if stratt ever confessed to basically blackbagging and murdering the Guy That Everybody Liked, but i think under the shock and pride and whatever else she was feeling in the meeting room with the rest of the original admin on the 26th anniversary, when ryland goes from "AHHH THE ALIENS COULD BE SENDING BOMBS AT ME" to buddy comedy roommate shenanigans with best friend rocky in what feels 10 minutes, she was pretty satisfied with her decision.

i really like those "can you lock the fuck in" images but i felt they were missing the proper motivation.

ok yknow what im thinkin abt today? rocky sad of his crewmates dying of radiation, and asking grace how humans even discovered it.

and of course hes a middle school science teacher so he has an impromptu history lesson on lock about Marie Skłodowska-Curie and her contributions to science at the cost of her own life. It's a tragedy, but it was important to discover, and at the very least, her name will be remembered forever.

and man, doesnt that sound familiar he thinks as he says it aloud.

had an idea. walk with me here.

"Grace why all humans have two name in portable thinking machine question?"

"oh! yea, last names, humans have a first name that most people call them every day, and a last name that usually comes from their parents."

"ahh, understand. what grace last name question?"

"it's Grace. my first name is Ryland."

"... how translate, question? why not tell first name sooner question?"

"well those ones have the same answer, pal. a lot of first names don't have any translations, they just mean "a name." but I got lucky with my last name, since it has a translation! so I just decided to use that."

rocky's silent a little while. grace goes back to looking at the ocean so he jumps a little when rocky speaks up again.

"rocky give grace name in eridian question?"

"oh! yea, you sure can, bud!"
