Val is....so cute....she's a big great beam of sunshine and is so, so strong. The way she handles tragedy and negativity is also really realistic to me, and I feel for her. Though that might be in part due to your skill in rendering emotions? Her face is so expressive, despite her attempts to remain cheerful. I can tell that what is happening rattles her.

Sylvester actually really hated school until he managed to sign himself up for a summer geology course (well, actually his parents signed him up for it as summer school because his core math and science grades were dismal and they were desperate to get him to raise them). The professor he had was highly entertaining, the material was fascinating, and there was no nagging all-consuming thought about ‘anything-he-could-and-couldn’t-do-his-brother-could-do-better.’

It was the first time in a long time that Sylvester had actual fun in class.

The spare key to Sylvester’s house is in his brother’s possession, who uses it to break in whenever he sees fit. Sylvester tolerates it mostly because he has an awful habit of falling asleep at his desk and Patrick’s probably cut his coming down with the flu by a solid half by covering him with a jacket when he does his visit.
