Well, never thought it’d get me, and yet here I am…

Space Sniffles… I always heard about it, always boasted that I never had it, was starting to think I couldn’t catch it. ‘Thought I was some sorta immune? Oh boy, was I ever wrong.

Day one wasn’t so bad, just a sneezing fit or two… but then the runny nose started and when the tickling sensation remained a near-permanent feature, I knew something was up.

Day two was when things really started ramping up. Seemed like I couldn’t get a word out without my nose interrupting and getting the better of me. That’s when I started looking for answers.

Research has now revealed to me that I may not be able to kick this thing for up to two weeks… I’m only on day three and I feel like I’m going to lose it! No cure?! ride it out?!

My nose won’t stop itching and burning, I’m constantly either on the edge of a sneeze or sneezing my head off, rarely any in between or reprieve…

Sniffling, rubbing, scratching, wiping or blowing my nose does little to relieve this itch! It feels deep… like tickling my brain deep! I can maybe type a sentence or two if I hold back and grind my teeth, but these sneezes are so disruptive! And, I shudder to write this so I’ll keep it as brief as I can, they’re so…gross! Each sneeze is sloppier than the last… My head is sloshier than the emergency rations of soup I’ve been downing… My nose is leaking and just won’t quit.

Must’ve caught it from the last bastard I turned in. I thought he was suspiciously sneezy… I wondered if he was allergic to something on my ship? Maybe it was a little dusty for him? Well, now I know the truth. He infected me. All this and turning him in was far from worth the trouble! All I got was enough for a soda or two and an unplanned, two-week, bed-bound vacation.

I ain’t catching any more bounties for a while, not when I can hardly catch Z’s… At least now I can say I’m good at catching something… colds.

Wish me luck and a shipment of tissues.

Space Sniffles: A Comprehensive Medical Reference for the Shooting Star.

Good day, traveler! Exploring vast depths and infinite, matchless planets may seem like any drifter’s dream- but beware, as with most good things, there’s risks involved!

I’m not talking about intergalactic bandits or star dust in one’s shoe (not today, anyways). Oh no no, today I’m talking about a nasty little bug…

No, not asteroid beetles… *sigh* are you sure you can keep up?

I’m sure you’ve heard of it- it’s as common as space junk: Space Sniffles!

Such a cute name! But what is it?

A little ailment caused by a virus dug up as far back as space travel became the new hotness. The exact origin is unknown, though the less mature joke that it came from Uranus, it’s just that ass.

What does it do?

Primarily? Makes you sneeze. And sneeze. And sneeze. Its only goal is to spread to as many hosts as possible, replicating itself faster than the speed of light and it loves to take a little trip just as much as you do! It forces your sinuses to produce more and more mucus to try to flush the bugger out. Once infected, expect your nose to constantly tickle, run and possibly even burn. Luckily, it seems to really stick to the nose, only posing as a nuisance. Careful when driving your shuttle! Ya may just sneeze yourself into orbit… or crash into comets.

How long does this sneeze show last?

Up to two whole weeks, so you best hunker down, cadet.

Is there a cure?

Not exactly. Maybe somewhere out there, there is. As we know it? Not yet.

However, there are treatments to help ease symptoms… good luck finding them, though. Either you’ll somehow find some at a rare, well-stocked pharmacy (though these days, if you do, you better count your lucky stars.), or you’ll probably have better luck hunting down remedies yourself. You’re a space cowboy, aren’t you?

Eventually, Space Sniffles gets to us all, so don’t sweat it if you do. Doesn’t make you any less of a gutsy galaxy venturer! …Just… cover your mouth, please!
