Hello! As I’ve said for the past few months, it’s been very quiescent around here, but hopefully that will change imminently, as my sabbatical year ramps up! Luckily tumblr’s monthly archive helped bring me over (or through?) the potential barrier and twitter gave me a very good reason to post today.

This stunning artwork, titled “Margaret’s Moon”, was made by Dr. Jamie Molaro (aka Spacejammie), and I’ll just post her own description:

This piece was made using data from the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter (LOLA) aboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) spacecraft. The topography is the same as used in The Book of Moon, though with fewer layers. The text on the pages is original source code for the Apollo 11 guidance computer for the command and lunar modules. The code was written by NASA computer scientist Margaret Hamilton in 1969. It was during this project that she invented the term “software engineering” to describe the process of writing code.

I mostly drink water or various flavors of Mountain Dew, but lately I've been getting more into tea (mainly fruit teas)

oh wow thanks for the extensive list! sorry for how long it's taken, it took me a while to come up with all this haha

🍓: I read the Percy Jackson books and made an OC, wrote about 5 pages before I realized I was just copying the plot of The Lightning Thief lol. I liked writing before that, but I had never actually written anything in an existing fictional universe

🕯️: oh definitely like 8-9. it's so much easier to edit what already exists than generate ideas with a blank page haha

🛼 : ugh I'm not good at this but 🧙🧪🌀🏰🗺️

🥤: Killthespare, deanpendragon and skittidyne for authors (mostly haikyuu), and my recs list for fanfics (yes I'm cheating; this is way more than one, but who cares)

🎲: the inexorable pull of mindless scrolling. also fear of inadequacy and lack of inspiration for existing projects....

🍄: I feel like I don't really have any of my own lol I just steal other people's. not a ship one per se, but I hc that Yamaguchi is a really good (but really shy) singer. and I guess I could make it shippy by adding that he feels comfortable doing it around Tsukki <3

🪐: 1. I am employed 2. I'm actually working on a wip I've been very much neglecting!!! and might publish a new chapter soon!! 3. I'm really enjoying the Mighty Nein show

🔪: ummm maybe types of dandelions? only weird bc it was for a single line

🌿: try to close some tabs in your brain before opening new ones. if you're too overcrowded with stuff you might not have room for creativity. also, try writing something intentionally badly. it's better to make some garbage that you know is garbage to clear it out than to force it into whatever you're trying to make good. it feels counterintuitive to make something that sucks, and I still struggle with this too. but I remember that analogy about the pottery class, where one group got judged on the quantity of their work and the other on the quality, and the quantity group actually made better work than the quality one because they weren't worried about trying to make their one and only piece perfect, so they actually got practice. planning will only get you so far - at some point you have to actually start working or it will never get done.

🥐: oh there are literally hundreds lol but lately I've been thinking a lot about that one clip from dropout about killing thousands of geese (here)

🏜️: I absolutely love when people comment specific lines or aspects they liked about the fic, or if they ask me questions about my process. but I love any comment that isn't spam!

🧩: if it's all written in one big paragraph with no line breaks. I also tend to click away if it's too heavy on epithets, or if there's a tag I dislike that I missed while reading the summary

🤡 What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh? Not published yet, but I crack myself up every time I reread this line: "And so, the birth of Fire Princess Izumi was announced to the Fire Nation, and the kingdom rejoiced. The king and queen released thousands of lanterns into the sky- wait, wrong story."

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc. Uhhhhhhhh I mean I like writing kiss scenes?? I also like imagining how different characters interact when meeting for the first time. Someone else would have to tell me whether I have recurring themes or imagery lol idk what my patterns are

⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped? Multiple. *Technically* I might go back and work on them someday (except for the one about the kid from the Zuko Alone episode of ATLA; I think that inspiration has died sadly), but a lot of my ideas start to wither in the plotting stage. As for published works, I have a crossover fic that I still really like the concept of, but bit off more than I could chew plotwise, so if I ever finish I'll probably have to rework it.

📈 How many fics do you have? 8 (9 if you count the podfic) on ao3, plus 3 more on fanfiction.net.

🤩 Who is your favorite character to write? Argh this is hard, I feel like I haven't written enough in any one character's POV to have a favorite. I do like writing L from Death Note, though.

⌛ How long does it take you to write a fic, or a chapter? Too long lol. But seriously, it depends on the fic length and my level of motivation. If I know what I want, the actual time spent writing is probably somewhere in the range of 4-6 hours? Maybe? I don't usually track it.

5. Barfbending (on ffnet): My first ever published (and finished) fanfic. It's only 1k but I'm still pretty proud of it

4. Draw Me Near: Honestly a toss-up between this and my other two Death Note fics, but this one took me the longest to write so I think it deserves the spot

3. Frosting and Freckles: The only tsukkiyama I've written to date, but because they're my favorite hq ship they get this spot. It's also the way I met Jammie so that's pretty cool :)

2. Varian Is Not a Wizard: It's taking me forever to write because procrastination, but I'm still just as in love with the concept as I was when I started writing it

1.Bent Out of Shape: This is my baby, truly. Idk why I got so attached to background characters in the ATLA comics, but I did and so this exists. I'm proud of it and glad I wrote it even though its ao3 engagement is low (but higher on ffnet, where I started writing it) and it's probably not the greatest thing I've written
