“so uh… what do you think?” you say letting chenle see you as you spin with an awkward smile.
he stays silent for a little, as if actually pondering all the options he had seen until now. “spin once more, i didn’t quite see you properly” he narrows his eyes.
you do it again, this time slower. you can see his eyes going down when you start turning your back to him, and going up again when you’re facing him. you wait for him to answer.
“you look good” chenle shrugs. he’s now pretending to be chill about it, but he can’t even look up at your face.
“you know, my face is right he-“ you interrupt yourself with a yelp.
as soon as he saw other guys checking you out from afar, he quickly pushed you in the room again, closing the curtain.
“buy that one and let’s go” he sounds impatient from the other side. “what is it with you?” you chuckle as you change back to your original clothes.
chenle doesn’t answer but when you get out, you see him with that funny to you expression he has when he’s jealous but doesn’t want to say anything.
“chenle what is it?” you say poking his side trying to get his attention. “it’s nothing. let’s go pay, yeah?” but you can see it in his face how sulky he got.
“you know even more guys will see me when we are at the beach right?” he looks at you with a serious face. “yeah no. let’s cancel the trip. we are going to the mountains. i don’t even like the hot weather and sand is annoying anyways”.
chenle takes the bikini off your hands and leaves it there before pulling you out of the store. you just giggle following him (as if you had another choice).
“weren’t you ‘just a chill guy that is not jealous at all and doesn’t mind if i wear bikinis in public’ as i’m literally supposed to?”
“s-shut up” he huffs, not looking at you. “i changed my mind”.
you decided to go to the bathroom and when you came back, pulling your blankets over you and trying to relax in your dark but warm room, it was already too late. you weren’t gonna fall asleep any time soon.
you started to think about everything: from the final you failed last night; to your current friendships... can you even call it that? the same friendships you’ve poured so much effort into, yet somehow it never felt like enough; how much you miss talking about your concerns with someone... wait, you’ve never actually done that; and the list goes on.
4 hours swiftly went by... now it’s 8 am.
you sigh and get off bed. "i guess it’s a reasonable time to get up now" you thought to yourself while putting on your slippers.
you get out of your room and make your way to the kitchen, hoping not to wake jisung, your roomate, up. you bet he was as drained as you, knowing he stayed late at uni just like you had to.
you grab your favorite hello kitty mug and when you turn around to pour some coffee, it slips from your fingers.
you look down just in time to see how it shatters right next to your feet, a loud noise along with little ceramic pieces spreading everywhere. you chuckle bitterly and crouch on the ground looking at your mug now turned into dust.
jisung gets out of his room hurriedly. "are you okay? did you get hurt?" he runs to you, grabbing your shoulder ever so gently. "i didn’t mean to wake you up" you say quietly without taking your eyes off the mess you’ve made.
he chuckles softly, admiring your ability to care about him even at this moment. jisung follows your gaze "that was the hello kitty one, right?" you just nod, your chin trembling at this point. "come here" he says standing up and dragging you with him.
jisung hugs you, holding your head to his chest. the difference between your height and his being too obvious now. he interrupts your thoughts "this is not about the mug, isn’t it?".
and as he says that you just let go. crying to your roomate about all that has been bothering you for a while now. gripping his now-wet-with-tears shirt.
"you can tell me whenever you’re ready, okay?" he says caressing your hair in a soothing manner.
"it kinda sounds like a job interview" you laugh. "you are right" he shrugs as he eats one of the fruits you cut and put in a bowl before sitting down on the couch.
you and chenle have been going on dates for a couple of months now. but almost every time, you guys ended up doing other things instead of actually getting to know each other. it's not as if you two were avoiding conversations, it just happened to be like that.
"but I really mean it, tell me anything... or everything, in fact" he nods encouraging you to talk.
when he said that, your eyes lit up. your face full of enthusiasm. you didn't want to show that you were that excited to have this kind of conversations, but you really were. and he knew it as soon as your face changed, so there was no point in hiding it anymore.
"it might sound silly, but I really love this part of 'getting to know each other'. it's just so fun to listen about whatever the other person likes and the little details" you say happily.
you didn't notice of course, but while you talked, he was looking at you with so much adoration in his eyes. chenle knew he was in love with you, but didn't want to say anything until he had at least a minimal hint about it being reciprocated. he knew you too. not the oddly specific things, but the exact amount to already fall in love.
how many times had he thought about what would you say if he confessed so early? he imagined you saying "you don't even know my favorite color, chenle" so that's why he was determined to learn every detail about you today.
"i love it too, it's a shame we didn't have the time to do it before" he shakes his head. "now, tell me" you giggle at his eagerness.
you look at him one more time, to be sure he actually wanted to. he nods and you finally start.
"i love the color red and purple. i love cats. also, i love listening to music. it might sound weird, but i love studying because it's the perfect excuse to listen to my favorite songs without being interrupted. i like to draw, but i'm not really good at it. i love the 'oversized pants and tiny tops' combination. i love the stars and planets- actually, did you know i wanted to be an astronaut?" he chuckled when you interrupted yourself. "...but I decided to switch paths because i want to have a family one day, and i couldn't be there for my kids and husband if i'm in space, right?"
you looked like you had a million other things to say, but you wanted to listen about his own stuff too. "it's your turn now" you say this time, a hint of shyness showing in your face because of how much you managed to say in two minutes.
he, again, noticed it. "it's alright, i really enjoy listening to you" at this point you were all red because of his confession.
chenle could listen to you for hours non stop. even though he was the type to talk... the type to be listened to.
“i wasn’t even that harsh” you say laughing. “why did you have to though?” he pouts.
you point to the car that you guys just passed. “see that car?” he nods with a frown. “if you see a yellow car like that one you have to hit the person you’re with bef- HEY let me finish!” you say as you see him throw a punch to your side. he laughs, now waiting for you to continue.
“you have to hit the person before the they do it. i already did so you can’t just punch me for that one. wait for another yellow car.” you say serious.
he lets out an “oh” followed by a guilty smile while he scratches the back of his neck. you flash him a fake smile narrowing your eyes.
little did you know… the silly game you used to play with your brother and now with haechan, was going to turn into a play fight between the dreamies.
you all are now walking to the park. each one of them in groups of two, trying to beat each other first.
“AH fuck- stop already” you can hear jisung’s whines and chenle’s laughter. the younger one squirming even when there’s not yellow cars at sight, he’s traumatized at this point.
“that’s not even a car” renjun says to mark in disbelief. “yeah but bikes don’t have an engine, so if the biker has a yellow shirt it counts” mark smiles while renjun can’t put up with his nonsense. then mark proceeds to hit him when a motorbike passes by “YOU ARE NOT PLAYING FAIR!”
jeno didn’t even agree on playing. but jaemin still kept going. so he had to join him. they ended up having perfect timing. their hands meeting every time they tried to hit each other. that’s what you would call good luck.
and in the back of the long line of people screaming remained haechan and you, looking at the mess you guys started. “what have we done... i told you we shouldn’t have showed them that game” you sighed as you both kept walking behind them.
“hey, at least they’re entertained right?” he bumps your side with his arm. “you sound like their dad” you chuckle. “weren’t we their parents?” he says with a mischievous smile.
not only you couldn’t pass the test you’ve spent a year and a half studying for, this being the third time you retake the whole class; but you also forgot your umbrella. no, actually, you brought it. but forgot you had it on your bag the whole time you had to walk under the storm.
“thank you” you say to the driver, getting on the bus. he saw your drenched body while you desperately waved at him to stop and decided to wait. “finally something good”. you say, this time, to yourself.
you walk inside, while trying to catch your breath for all the running you had to do. until you reach chenle. he smiles at you, a chuckle almost leaving his lips as he sees your form. he grabs his bag and moves it so you have more space.
you sit next to him, brushing your wet hair with your fingers, trying to look a little more presentable for your boyfriend. but he couldn’t care less about that.
“i can’t believe it started to rain just when i got out of classes.” you say frustrated. “yeah, i made it just in time. you on the other hand…” chenle chuckles, but deep down he feels bad for you.
without noticing, you start to tremble. your side bumping with his. the hoodie you put on is useless at this point, as it is soaked.
“i’ll make soup when we get home” he looks at your trembling body, noticing your sparkly eyes when his eyes move up to your face. you love the food he makes, specially that chicken soup.
you let your head rest on chenle’s shoulder. he feels the water dripping off your hair through his shirt but doesn’t flinch at all. “you are wet” he says faking a whine. “and you are warm” you smile apologetically, wrapping your arms around his waist.
he moves slightly to put an arm around you, pulling you closer towards him and leaving a kiss on your forehead. you sigh, relaxing in his arms as you think “this day it’s not that bad after all”.
