#deltarune spoilers #spade king #queen #tenna #flowery #this was meant to be simple and concise but unfortunately I don't seem to understand what those words mean #thought 1) this is mostly inference but I think the reason we got that backstory for Spade King this chapter #was to establish him as a parallel to Deltarune Asgore specifically #something bad happened in the past; something that could be perceived as their responsibility (happened because of them)#but there's also an external party who could be blamed #so they embark on a singleminded revenge quest; directing their hatred outwards #and neglecting their kid(s) in the process #as a coping mechanism for the belief that what happened was really their fault #in the end Asgore realised that his revenge quest was pointless. I think Spade King has come to the same understanding but won't admit it #anyway that's why I categorised Spade King as believing his actions are for everyone else's benefit #(if he can just take over the world it will make up for the fact that everyone was thrown away because of him)#in contrast to Flowery who's fully aware that maintaining the Dark World will eventually kill the flowers #they all just happen to be completely on board with that plan. so it's 'beneficial' to them in the sense of it's what they want #thought 2) while Queen and Tenna are both somewhat distanced from the Darkners around them due to being special & in charge #I think Queen enjoys her position (it's fun) but Tenna doesn't like it as much (feels isolating) but can't really do anything about it #as with the other two - similar circumstances but different feelings #thought 3) there are a lot of parallels that can be observed between Tenna and Flowery #but in terms of their circumstances they are on exact opposite ends of the motivation spectrum (shown here)#and I feel that you really have to take that into account when comparing them #deltarune chapter 1 #deltarune chapter 2 #deltarune chapter 3 #deltarune chapter 5 #PK venn diagram #(technically not a venn diagram. but only because 4-way venn diagrams are difficult to arrange)
