     ‘   darling, i swear, it’s like every time i see you, you either grow  or shrink, pft  a centimeter or there’s something different about you.  wait, don’t tell me yet, let me guess.   ’  now he’s walking circles around them, one hand on his hip and the other under his chin.

     this child is familiar and pure, innocence of the soul rolling off of them in waves. the feeling is almost more  p o t e n t  than the strongest sugar. and speaking of which--

     the merchant produces a pair of clear, plainly wrapped lollipops from one of the pockets of his bag. one is slid beneath his mask. the other extended to the child before him. the slightest hints of a  s m i l e  are visible where the mask just barely covers his top lip. he puts his free hand to his lips.

Oof. He was so going to get in trouble for sneaking out in the middle of the night just to fill in for a so-called friend for his hero position. Without a doubt, he was going to make him pay him back for this hospitality of his.

Given the location, a few huge leaps were all it took to reach the roof of a building--only to find a child around his age greeting him immediately with their presence the moment he stood on the edge.

Well, this wasn’t awkward at all.
