Sparkle Kittens

R canNOT paraphrase.

He doesn’t realize we don’t have ALL the same interests.

He is currently reading me an entire article off the internet.. and he prefaced his conversation (monologue) with, “You know how last night you asked me what I was laughing at?”

My response:  “You were just laughing.. I didn’t say anything”

He started reading me the article and hasn’t stopped..

There are some of us at work that call our significant others Sparkle Kittens.. and R is definitely the sparkle kitten in our relationship.  Sparkle Kittens are the needy ones-- the ones that need to tell you all about their day, need to be constantly complemented, need to be with you.  It makes us non-sparkle-kittens sound heartless, but I’m going to be honest... I just like myself and want to spend SOME time of the day with just me.. doing my own thing.  Sparkle kittens think that when you don’t want to spend time with them, that you’re angry with them or that you need to have a “talk” because something seems wrong.  When in reality, you just got interested in a new book and don’t want to put it down or socialize with another human being until your brain is satisfied.  You know..

Anyway, EVERYONE has Sparkle Kitten qualities in their personality, but there is always one significant other who dominates as the Sparkle Kitten -- like there is almost always a dominant driver in a relationship.  R is both in ours.

So one common Sparkle Kitten realization from my own experience as well as two coworkers is that sparkle kittens have to talk about their day in agonizing detail with absolutely no story-telling ability.  That’s what R just did.. told me about his day (even when I don’t ask), read me a huge section of an article he found hilarious (and it was just ok), and is now sitting quietly because I am typing this and stopped listening (which means we’ll have a “talk” where he gets angry with me and tells me I hurt his feelings right before we fall asleep so that I can sit up for hours trying to re-enact the situation while my anxiety explodes).

Nevertheless.. I love my Sparkle Kitten and still question why he loves me.
