(1) Your scientific study is so true, though! A story about birth order: I'm the oldest of 3, but the youngest is only 4 years younger. Our parents are involved in the community theater and in general go to lots of plays. My dad had always read all the plays being done at the community theater, because he helped pick them, so he had all the information to make a decision about which plays we could see. I first got a season ticket at 13, and my sisters at 12 and 11, respectively.

(2) I was 15 and doing lights for one of the shows, and I pointed out to my dad that he would have totally not have let me see it when I was 11. He vaguely conceded the point (he had previously claimed that the shows varied from season to season and so that was why they got season tickets earlier.) Thus followed a period in which, if my parents were going to plays elsewhere, I always insisted upon going, which they let me do, though from 15-17 I definitely ended up sitting between my parents

(3) at some plays with Very Adult Discussions, and while I was strictly speaking not too young for the content, I was too young to be comfortable listening to it with my parents. So I totally got like, a growing experience that I hadn't bargained for from my naive insistence on getting to go with the adults. BUT BIRTH ORDER was my point, anyway. Really real.

LOL at this!! But yeah, Birth Order makes a huge difference! Speaking as a parent, by the time I got to Number 3, I was much more confident in the fact that he wasn’t AT RISK OF DEATH AT EVERY MOMENT, and tbh, I was a lot more busy and tired, too, as I had more kids to keep up with. I think all of those things lend themselves to a bit of relaxation of the rules.

I don’t recall ever taking the boys to any plays with questionable content for kids, but movies? Oh dear lord, Number 3 has DEFINITELY seen things that his oldest brother NEVER would have seen at the same age! :-/ (Although he IS the one member of the family NOT allowed to watch Outlander on Starz.)  And a bone of HUGE contention with the older two is that his school night bedtime has generally been about a half hour later than theirs was at any given age. Oops!

it really is.  i keep meaning to gif it, but i hate ripping caps from my dvds bc my vlc is a butt and doesn’t do it automatically.  i need to figure out another way to do it :/

It’s a topic quite near to my heart. Still and forever. I don’t like jargon being put in the drawer of elitism. Because it doesn’t belong there. :) So I’m not proud of this post, but want to keep up the discourse a bit.
