This weekend was an incredible ending to cap the spartanrace mountain series! I placed 8th in the Super to take 3rd overall after 6 epic races in some amazing places. My man @matt.rock.summit overcame a mid-season calf strain to come back with a 3rd place performance which edged me out of 2nd overall by 10 points. This pretty much sums up how the entire season went, with @ocr_hosek dominating for most races and the rest of us trading back and forth. So many races ended with kick battles for the finish, along with a few epic wipe-outs! Thanks spartan creating an experience in sport that only continues grow. Spear throw tips: I have struggled a long time with a consistent spear throw. Here are my best tips. (No pun intended). 1. Find the balance point and hold the spear slightly behind it. 2. Use a thumbless grip and grip it hard. I think you lose a lot of power when you hold it like a dart. 3. Stand facing your target. 4. Make sure your elbow is under your wrist and not flying out to the side. This is another place you lose power. Have someone film you because you will think you are doing it right but your elbow will be at a crazy angle. 5. Keep your throwing elbow pointed at the target. Feel the lats contract and the pec stretch on the throwing hand. 6. Free hand is outstretched and pointing to the target. 7. Take your first step with the opposite foot. So if I am left-handed, I am quickly stepping out with my right foot creating tension. 8. Squeeze the spear and bring your arm forward, not across the body. 9. Take a deep breath before the throw to stabilize the core so you don’t get an energy leak. When you release, use a short hard exhale with maybe 25% of the air in your lungs. When you do this, the spear will fly straighter and will have power behind it. If you do the set-up right, you have basically idiot-proofed your throw. I hope this helps.
