So here’s my thought on the matter:
(1) it was started by what seems historically to have been a troll but immediately taken seriously
(2) got noticed being taken seriously and its name changed by a mogai kiddo in 2014
(3) it literally got taken up by a fourchan plot, a “raid” not unlike the infamous Steven Universe edits [warning: lots and lots of slurs]
(4) now often seems to be used by two demographics:
cis people who “reject cisness” (recugender, anyone?) and desire Minority Points
people who are actually binary trans but don’t realize it because of internalized transphobia- i.e. a closeted trans man raised in a bigoted environment believes that trans women are men in dresses, and identifies strongly with feeling like a man in a dress
