Mostly, it was to get Ava and Sara off his arse about not being reachable. About how now that he was part of the Legends crew, if he was going to spend any time off the ship they needed to be able to get a hold of him.
So, he went and bought a cheap, flip phone with no touch screen and just enough buttons to be able to dial out and text. That’s all he really needed it for, anyways.
