Daylight December: Spells
Okay, so I didn’t do the last two days because I can’ write in Krel’s or Aja’s perspective for the live of me, but I was able to both a.) come up with an idea for today’s prompt as well as b.) write in a character’s perspective that I’m not usually writing in! I’m actually quite proud of it. It’s not my best, but it’s improvements to my Douxie POV writing lol.
I was rather young when I learned that having a countless number of spells meant nothing to become a good wizard.
I watched as powerful magic wielders fell over the centuries. Each knowing more spells than I had years of living, but every single one of them falling due to their own hubris in one way or another. May their end stem from how they thought they were much more powerful than the being before them or that fact that humanity's fear for the unknown devoured them, it didn't matter. All fell one way another even though they had an Encyclopedia filled with spells up their sleeves. Because it wasn't spells that would make you a good wizard.
The heart that you carried and the morals you followed was what made you a good, well, anything really. Human, troll, wizard, it doesn't matter.
But that didn't mean that as a new master wizard that I wasn't excited to teach my student as much as I could.
"Now, keep your hands steady, alright?" I watched as my apprentice tried her best to follow my instructions. "Clear your mind. Don't think of anything for a moment." Claire closed her eyes as I placed my hands onto her shoulders. "Now, think of something you want to protect. When the first thing appears in your mind, hold onto it. Make that your anchor as you did back in Camelot." She nodded her head as she seemed to capture the emotion with ease. "Now, take that feeling and project it into the shadows before you. Create from that a being that will help you complete this desire." I stepped back from her as a black swirl started to form before her hands. The shadows before her moving and molding to her whim as I smiled at her capability.
Claire is bound to be a powerful witch. One of quick wit and skilled prowess. But most of all, a perfect showcasing of what it meant to be a good wizard.
The young girl carries her heart upon her sleeve. Her emotions being the true reasoning that her power blossomed in the first place. Her love for all those around her is what leads to her success with almost everything I have thrown at her. May it be of Jim, her friends, her family, it didn't matter. Her desire to protect those she loves as well as the world she loves is what will lead her down a path of glory.
My smile grew wider as I watched the mass of shadows start to pulse a light purple. Her magic truly putting life into whatever she was manifesting.
Even if she had a limited array of spells up her sleeve within this very moment.
I squeeze her shoulders lightly as I encouraged her with my smile now going from ear to ear.
"Perfect! Just a little more, love! You got this!" Suddenly the shadows started to take shape into a humanoid figure. Slowly but surely, the shadows mended together to create a tall knight in armor. A shield and spear made fo pure shadows within its hands before it knelt down before Claire and bowed its head toward his creator. "You did it!" I watched as she opened her eyes slowly to look over her creation. Her hands dropping to her sides before she started looking between the shadow made knight and me in disbelief.
"I actually-." The fellow punk gave me a wide smile as she rushed to wrap me up in a tight hug. "I DID IT!" She pulled back as her smile still danced on her face. "Couldn't have done it without you, teach!" I couldn't help but smile with pride toward my friend as she turned her attention back toward her creation.
Yes, one can argue that spells are what makes a wizard powerful and I may agree to a certain degree.
I watched as Claire reached out and placed a gentle hand onto the top of the shadow knight's helmet. A small pulse of purple glowing from her touch proving that it was her that created them.
But I would bet the next nine-hundred years of my life on the fact that it is our emotions as spell casters that make us dangerous. Along with not just the connections we bear with not just our creations and spells, but from those that lend us the strength to cast them is what makes not just a good wizard.
My friend turned her head toward me to shine another smile toward me as my thoughts concluded within my head.
