There’s nothing special about it other than the fact that it’s extremely expensive but well, he has magical ROYALTY in his abode, he might as well try and play nice.Maybe he would even get laid out of this; it would be FUN. It was easy to figure out that she knew he wasn’t human. Some people could pick it up, others couldn’t and it hadn’t ended badly for him yet. All the times he’s been hurt have been because of his own folly and he wasn’t going to stop that yet. He had centuries left in him, maybe even millennia.

he missed nights like these. occasionally when his parents were away on business- as opposed to embracing being magicians they hid it religiously- he would spend the night at uncle giovanni’s house. that meant learning magic tricks from zatanna, watching movies about far off places, & pillow fights. of course, zachary only got his powers when he was older & never had much of a fighting chance.

zachary had missed the family manor so much & was glad that he finally got to spend a night there for the first time in too long. & now, with a smirk & a boyish laugh he grabs the nearest pillow, no longer paying attention to whatever movie they were watching. after all the two of them had been through, he figured tonight they could just forget everything else & be happy.

his words were ACCENTED by a slight lisp, & with a quick glance at his mouth, the culprit would be revealed to be a few missing teeth. his cummerbund which was USUALLY only to add flair & a sense of classic style now helped to hide a rather sizable bandage on his side that would normally cause his shirt to bunch awkwardly in the area. the thing that was mostly a DEAD GIVEAWAY that something was definitely not right was the faint black eye his make-up couldn’t cover. then again, it was a rare enough occurrence he wore stage make-up out in public to raise a few flags anyways.

he hadn’t seen the last shred of family he had in SO LONG. some nights he thought he’d never zatanna’s face ever again. but on other nights a whole other feeling struck him- betrayal. where was she when he NEEDED her the most ?? was he that expendable to her- had she even CALLED him once in that time ?? & as he stood close to her cloaked in nothing but vulnerability, zachary could’ve sworn that spiders had crawled up his spine. the same feeling struck him once more. no. she still loved him. ...RIGHT ??

his words were slow, UNEASY, & very cautious. he couldn’t say what had happened, but she was clever- zach knew she’d figure it out. but until then, his eyes refused to stare at anything other than the floor.
