i finished criminal minds and i've always been a polyshipper and my 3 fav characters are penny, spence and luke! so here are my headcanons of them in a poly relationship pls and thx u!!
some disclaimers: they are queer! Spence is greysexual, agender (any pronouns), and so in love with his partners; Penny is pansexual and a sweetheart; Luke is nonbinary, uses they/he pronouns, and a chaotic bisexual.

so penny and luke start dating
we know thats almost canon since they asked her out in 15x10
penny is doing great at her new job, and keeps tabs on her besties at the bau!
One of those besties is Spencer, ofc.
so, penny and luke are dating and they move together almost immediately. and in that process, penny notices that luke tends to speak about spencer way more that their other coworkers
also he has like this wonderful twinkle everytime they tell her the random-fact-of-the-day they learnt from reid
and penny just knows
reid isn't exactly sublte either
he, as penny bff, usually hangs out at their place so they can have doctor who marathons
or startrek marathons
or any science fiction u could think of: penny and spence will watch it
luke, of course, joins them, because they are the best boyfriend and friend and he is also kind of a nerd, tbh
the thing is that garcia can't help but see all the glances reid keeps stealing towards alvez
and it's the kind of look that he had when talking about maeve, or max... hell, even cat.
and luke, more than once, steal glances towards spence, and sometimes they meet and just softly stare at each other before turning away, all blushed up and pretty
bc penny knows they are her pretty boys, so she has a plan
it had never ocurred to her that her best friend could actually meant more for her than just a... a friend? but he does
i mean, he actually listens to her when she starts rambling about all that knew stuff she just learnt and he is so excited he rambles back (and every and each time luke is right behind them staring lovingly)
anyways, penny does the only thing she knows: go to derek
derek won't deny that he is between amazed and utterly confused
"i thought you and alvez were already dating?"
"oh we are!"
"but you just said you think u like reid"
"yup"
"and you said that reid likes luke and luke likes reid?"
"if you understand it, then why are you asking me this again?"
she finally has a plan
it's a thursday night, and it's sleepover at the galvez's
however, at the last minute, she bails to emily's and leave the guys alone
this gals are dumb
they just awkwardly giggle and not really talk yet scoot closer and closer
when penny gets home they are barely holding hands
"oh my god"
she kisses luke first
and then she just grabs spencer's face and softly pecks him
"now is your turn!"
"m-my turn?"
"i swear to god if you don't kiss as in this second i will kick you both out"
so they kiss
and spencer wonders if this is how teenagers actually feel with their first crush
also luke's stubble it's itchy and it's now spence's mission to make him shave
"if you shave i will call you newbie once more"
"if you don't shave i won't lend you my sweaters any more"
"i did not sign up to be emotionally manipulated by two devils with angel's faces"
penny and spence smile and look at each other, before pushing luke out of the couch and holding hands
they eventually climb back on and sit on spencer's lap while honding penny's hands
I keep thinking about Spencer and Penelope spending the holidays together. Just curled up on Penelope’s couch at Christmas in pjs with Spencer following all of Penelope’s traditions because he never really had any growing up and making some of their own. One of which is watching the doctor who Christmas special. Which is Spencer’s favorite cause they usually end up marathoning the show while cuddling and Penelope is warm and doesn’t squirm when his freezing fingers search for warmth.
Penelope’s favorite is making cookies while playing Frank Sinatra Christmas songs on vinyl. She likes looking over while frosting cookies to see Spencer laser focused on the task. That and the not so tradition of seeing Spencer marvel at snow. He hates the cold but every time there’s a white Christmas he loves watching the snow.
Then there are the gifts. Penelope is a master of gift giving. She’s made him several scarves over the years that are the perfect texture that won’t bother him. She gives him a weighted blanket one year and he loves it. Spencer is good at giving gifts but tends to get nervous about it. He got her a vegetarian cook book after hearing that she wanted some more dishes to make. One year he got her an l.e.d keyboard and did tons of research about it beforehand to make sure it would fit with everything Penelope has. And the gift that made him the most nervous was when he knit her a scarf. It’s not perfect but she treats it like it is because it is to her.
One year Penelope puts mistletoe around her place and when Spencer gets caught under it he goes bright red and infodumps about the tradition. Only stopping when he realizes Penelope is right in front of him.
