New sunscreen purchases!
Hey everyone! Me and my parents went on an impromptu shopping trip yesterday, and I snagged these two beauties for just under £10! 😱
My face has been suuuuper unhappy this week, as I may have worn heavy-duty sunscreen with a full face of make-up, which triggered a lot of redness, irritation and inflamed breakouts 😭 I didn’t think there’d be an issue as the sunscreen I wore dries down to a moisturiser consistency, but hey ho. This has left me in desperate need of sunscreens that are actually meant to pair with a flawless base, which is how I came to find these new purchases!
The Bondi Sands SPF 50+ has achieved cult status in the last year, so I’m mega excited to put this to the test for myself. It retails for £6.99 usually, but as it was on offer at Boots I bought it for £3.49! An absolute bargain considering it’s fragrance-free, cruelty-free, provides broad spectrum protection AND comes in a 75ml bottle! This will replace my daytime moisturiser, as the formula itself is hydrating and so I don’t want to overload my combination skin type.
Next we have Garnier’s Sensitive Advanced SPF 50 Face Mist, which is a product I keep coming back to over and over again. It’s also cruelty-free as well as being non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic and can be sprayed directly over make-up for when you need a top up during the day. The reason I don’t rely on this SPF regularly is because it runs out pretty quickly, so I’d rather have it as a supplement to my skincare routine instead of being the star of the show. This retails for £6.00 usually, so it’s another great, affordable option for when you want to look your best without sacrificing sun protection.
Have a fab weekend! 💕

✰ summary: ❝If you have to spend your summer home from college working a job you hate, it might as well include sitting by the pool with Jungkook. Now if only kids could stop vomiting in it.❞
✰ A/N: it’s six days late, and all I can think is surprise bitch, bet you thought I wasn’t going to post it (I’m so sorry it’s late, thank you for waiting, please forgive me, I love you all)
You're not sure what the worst part of your summer lifeguarding job was: sitting in the heat and humidity for hours on end, the smell of chlorine never quite leaving you, or the kids constantly screaming and vomiting in the pool. It was probably the vomiting. There was no reason for it to be happening as often as it did, yet it was a constant threat.
A shrill scream from the deep end of the pool, has you instantly turning your head in that direction. Some kid is dunking his sister under the water like an idiot. You're just about to blow your whistle, when your fellow guard beats you to it. You turn your attention to him as he tells the kids to separate and go back to the shallow end if they want to play around.
Jeon Jungkook was absolutely the best part of your lifeguard gig. Scheduled for the same shifts as you, Jungkook was the only thing you looked forward to at work. Every day you got to see him in all of his tan muscular, long black haired, several piercings, small red shorts glory, and every day you thanked the scheduling gods for your shifts.
Sure, it was early in the morning and no one else wanted to wake up for the first shift, but it still felt like a small blessing from the universe for the rest of your suffering.
You were ashamed to admit that some days you hoped a kid would need help, just so Jungkook would jump into the pool and get his hair wet. It always looked good, but it looked sinful all wet and clinging to his defined face. Once it dried, it was curlier and somehow better than before. He defied logic.
You only realize you've been staring at him when he turns to look at you with a smirk on his face. Your eyes widen, and you're just about to make up some excuse, when you hear the unmistakable sound of your day being ruined. You don't even have to look to know that some kid has retched in the shallow end again. Sure enough, the screams of the other kids confirm your suspicions, and Jungkook mouths that its your turn.
You roll your eyes, which earns a laugh from him as you blow your whistle and get everyone out of the pool.
"Shows over. Blame the kid, not me!"
A couple of moms walk by you, making sure to whisper their dissatisfaction with your statement loudly enough for you to hear.
"Have a nice day," you respond with a smile, which they return half-heartedly as they grab their kids.
"You want to vacuum, or chlorine?" Jungkook asks as he appears beside you.
"What did I do last time?"
"Vacuum."
"I guess I'm chlorine then," you sigh, running your hands through your hair. "If they could just vomit anywhere else I would literally give them an award."
"Yeah?" Jungkook laughs, as you walk to the pool shed together. "Congratulations, you made it to the trashcan. Here's a gold star."
"Great job, you threw up in your mom's tote bag instead of the pool. Two gold stars for you, Kyle."
"You have to watch out for that Kyle."
"Can't take your eyes off of him for a second," you said, as Jungkook bends down to grab the chlorine and pass it to you. You try not look at his ass, despite the fact that his trunks are bright red and begging you to do so, and when he passes you the chlorine you only feel slightly embarrassed.
Soon you're walking back to the pool, supplies in hand, and you can't help but think if you have to do this with someone, you're glad it's Jungkook. You wonder if he feels the same way. You let yourself hope that he does.
The next day after work, the staff decided to head down to the boardwalk and get ice cream together and, after ordering, you make your way to the beach. You and the other girls take a seat on the edge of boardwalk, watching as the boys try and wrestle each other into the ocean. You're both amused and impressed, as you do not have the energy after a day of lifeguarding to even think about doing that.
Amber is cheering on Felix beside you, though it's clear he's no match for Jungkook, especially once the latter picks him up. Soon Felix finds himself in the ocean, looking so small as the waves crash around him. He yells something about having just showered, but it's hard to hear him over the sound of everyone laughing.
Felix is finally emerging from the ocean when Jungkook turns towards you and the rest of the female guards. You're caught off guard at first, because he's looking right at you and they way he looks at you always makes your heart race. You're so entranced with the way he shakes his hair out of his eyes, that you don't even realize that he intends to give you the same fate as Felix until Dana is squealing beside you and begging him to stop.
"Jungkook," you start, your eyes widening. "I swear on all that is good and holy."
"Swear what?" he asked, as he tilted his head to the side, a mischievous grin on his face.
"I will scream so loud, people will be worried."
He seemed amused at this. "You'll scream?"
"A good old fashioned, 'I don't know this man, please save me,'" you replied, standing from your spot on the ground, and walking backwards away from him.
"Leave her alone, Jungkook," Amber said, coming to your defense. "Pick on someone your own size."
Jungkook turned and stuck his tongue out to her, which she mirrored. He looked back over at you, but stopped walking towards you.
"You're safe this time, but I will get you. When you least expect it," he motioned towards the ocean, "you're next."
"Jesus, you're so ominous, calm down, Kook," Dana laughed.
Everyone settled on the boardwalk and you rejoined them, as the sun started to set. You all talked together, laughing easily and relaxing as the ocean and sky turned a brilliant shade of pink.
Soon you were all heading back to the cars, you climbing into the passenger seat of Jungkook's truck, and sinking into the seat, letting the weight of the day fall onto your shoulders. You, Jungkook, and Amber were silent on the drive back to the pool parking lot, but when you moved to get out of the truck on your arrival, Jungkook stopped you.
"You take the bus right?"
"Yep," you replied, popping the p.
Jungkook smiled. "If you want, I can drive you home."
"You don't have to," you said, reaching for the handle to drive the point even further home.
"No, it's really not a problem."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course."
"Thank you," you said, as you re-buckled your seat belt. "That's really nice of you."
"It's really not a big deal," he insisted, pulling out of the parking lot. "Where do you live?"
You pulled up your address on your phone navigation, and placed it so that he could see it.
"So, that's why we didn't go to the same high school," he remarked as you explained where you lived.
"Probably for the best," you replied, turning to face him. "I'm not sure we would have been friends otherwise."
"Why do you say that?"
"I didn't hang out with the jocks."
"Oh," he laughed. "You were too good to be my friend, huh?"
"That's not what I said-"
"______ said I'm a meathead and she wouldn't have even talked to me, can you believe it?" He shook his head, though the large smile remained on his face. "I can't believe you called me stupid in my own car."
"I literally never said that, but go off I guess." You can't wipe your own smile off your face. "I was a theater kid and it's not even a matter of sitting at the same table at lunch, because we sat in the hallway. Can you believe?"
"Why did you sit in the hallway?" he laughed.
"I have no clue, I just showed up freshmen year, ready to help design some sets, and all the upperclassmen sat on the floor in the hallway and I said, I guess this is my life for the next four years, and it was."
"Not even a chair."
"Not even a chair," you agreed as Jungkook pulled onto your street.
"For the record," Jungkook said, turning to look at you briefly. "I was a jock, but I also sang in the choir, so I might have sat in the hallway at your school."
"Who knew you had a set of pipes?"
His ears turned red at this. "There's a lot you don't know about me," he said, a shy smile on his face. "Didn't anyone ever tell you not to judge a book by it's cover."
"How foolish of me," you replied as Jungkook pulled up outside of your house.
"Well, you can think about the error of your ways until you see me tomorrow."
"Should I do five hail Mary's while I'm at it?"
Jungkook looked back at you blankly. "I have no idea what that means, but sure. Knock yourself out."
You laughed as you reached for the door handle. "Thanks for the ride, Jungkook."
"Anytime."
A kid got scared in the deep end earlier in your shift, so you've been a little too obviously staring at the way Jungkook's wet hair falls perfectly in front of his eyes. You've been meaning to ask him how he manages to be unbothered by it hanging in his face like that, because you are constantly pushing your hair behind your ears or wearing it up in a ponytail to avoid that very problem, but you think that bringing it up might make it obvious that you've been admiring him from across the chlorine expanse.
It's not your fault he looks so good like that, and he knows it. You've caught him checking the way his hair falls in the mirror before shift too many times to think he's oblivious to how attractive it looks.
"Excuse me."
You turn away from watching Jungkook towards the mom standing by your chair. "Yes, ma'am."
"My son's toy boat floated into the deep end, can you get it?"
You follow her pointed finger and find the boat in the middle of the pool. You force a smile onto your face, despite absolutely loathing that she has roped you into this easily accomplished task. You stand up from your chair, and make your way to the edge of the pool.
"Hey, kid in the yellow suit," you said, pointing at the child closest to the toy. "Bring me that, please."
He does as asked, swimming the toy over to you, and soon the mom is thanking you for your help, and of course she should have just done that, sorry to be a problem, and then she's leaving the pool with her kid and you're returning to your chair.
When you look across the pool, you see Felix instead of Jungkook, meaning his shift ended in the time you were on boat rescue. The five minutes between when Jungkook's shift switches and your own does seem like the longest part of the day and you never look forward to it.
Five minutes pass, and soon you see Amber coming out to take your spot by the pool. You switch once she reaches the chair, and you head as quickly as you can to the staff building without running, as that's against pool rules. One of the guards blows their whistles and you turn your head in their direction to see what's happening, when you come into contact with someone. You immediately apologize profusely before looking up and seeing you've run into Jungkook.
"Sorry, I wasn't looking," you said, a bit confused as to why he has come out of the staff building at all. Your cheeks heat once you realize you're currently against his body, the very one you've spent most of the summer so far ogling at.
It's only when he smiles widely, that you realize what's about to happen. You start to protest, but it's too late, as Jungkook is picking you up. You beat against his back lightly, asking him to let you go, and soon enough he is letting you go, directly over the pool.
The water is a cold shock to your system, and when you come back up to the surface, Jungkook looks rather pleased with himself, despite a mom shouting in the background. He squats down to offer you a hand which you take, and for a moment you consider trying to pull him in after you, but one exploratory tug lets you know you're not strong enough to take him down.
"I did warn you that I was going to do that," he says with a laugh, as the two of you walk to the staff building.
"Yes, I do remember your ominous, 'you're next,' a few days ago. I guess I just hoped you would develop a conscience by then."
"You wound me," he said, as he clutched at his heart as if he had been shot.
"You threw me," you remind him, opening the door to the staff building.
It turns out that your boss is not a fan of lifeguards breaking the pool rules, as you and Jungkook are asked to stay after the pool closes. You partially listen to him explain why what happened was inappropriate, partially wonder how you ended up getting just as much punishment as Jungkook in this scenario considering, he is the one who threw you in the pool. You were the victim in this scenario.
But your boss did not find this to be a convincing argument.
The next morning you have no choice but to show up two hours before the pool opens to clean it with Jungkook. Your mom drops you off, taking pity on you for having to take the bus so early in the morning, and offers you a small smile as she drives away.
Jungkook is already standing outside the entrance waiting for you, two iced coffees in hand. "I figured I kind of owe you this," he said as he handed one of the drinks to you. "Sorry you have to be here at ass o'clock because of me."
"Apology accepted," you smile, before taking your first sip of the drink.
You fall into a comfortable rhythm after this, grabbing the supplies from the shed and getting to work. You think that as much as you hate being up this early, there are two silver linings. The first is that the normal pool boy gets the day off because of your punishment, which is kind of a nice deed on your part, and the second is of course Jungkook.
It's the first time you've seen him sleepy, and its undeniably endearing. He keeps rubbing his eyes and stretching, looking much more soft than the adonis-like life guard usually does.
"So, what are you like in the real world?" Jungkook asks, looking across the pool at you.
"The real world? Is this a lifeguarding simulation, I wasn't aware of?"
"Take the red pill," he said with a laugh. "No, but seriously. What's your major? What do you do for fun? That kind of real world stuff that you know about your friends."
His seemingly genuine interest in your life forces you to look away from him as you smile a bit too widely to be seen as cool or nonchalant. You try and act like your heart isn't racing because Jeon Jungkook actually cares about what kind of person you are.
"I'm undecided," you answered. "I had a couple of things I thought I might be interested in, so I want to give myself time to explore them." It's an answer you've grown used to, always having to justify why you haven't plotted out your entire life yet.
"That's cool," he said, running the pool skimmer across the surface.
"Yeah, that's what people always say about indecision."
The corners of his eyes crinkle as he smiles widely at you. "Oh yeah, I'm sure you get a lot of awkward silence after that."
"Yeah, but it's okay. It's my life, not their's."
"Exactly."
"So," you said, skimming your section of the pool. "What are you majoring in?"
"Creative technologies."
You looked up at him in confusion. "What?"
He laughed at this. "Yeah, that's usually the reaction."
"It sounds cool, but I have no idea what it means."
"It's pretty broad actually. It's basically any type of art that involves technology."
"So, you're an artist."
He shrugged. "I guess. I've mostly taken the video production and game development courses. I didn't know which I was more interested in."
"Wait, that's actually really cool," you said, turning to him with a frown. "How dare you ask me my major only to have that bomb waiting?"
He looked down at the pool, his cheeks turning a little red. "It wasn't trying to brag, I swear."
"If I was you, I would literally tell everyone. You deserve to brag at least a little."
"Thanks," he said, still not looking up from the pool.
"So, which do you like better, video production or game development?"
Jungkook looks up at you, a smile on his face, as he begins to describe to you the differences between the two courses. He's so animated and passionate as he explains that while video production comes more naturally to him, he likes the challenge of game development. You can't help but laugh when he pouts while describing how much math is involved in game production, something he had no anticipated and that he is not good at. Despite this, he explains that the math component almost made it more rewarding when he and his group finally produced a small app by the end of the class.
"I actually picked the major, because it included so many different things. Every class I take makes me want to do something else with my life. So I'm really just undecided with a cover story," he said, with a small laugh.
"It sounds like you really like it though."
"Yeah, I really do."
You keep cleaning the pool, talking about your respective lives at college, and all the while you can't help but marvel at how he keeps getting better and better in your eyes. You were convinced he was just a jock, a muscle head prone to throwing others in bodies of water, but of course he was also an artist, a kind of nerdy one at that, and he was passionate and well-spoken.
You wouldn't be surprised if Ashton Kutcher came out of the bushes just to say that you had been punk'd and everyone would laugh because for a moment you actually thought that the perfect human being just happened to work at the same pool as you, and then Jungkook would reveal that his godlike hair was actually a wig, and you would all just laugh and laugh.
But he was real, and you were starting to think it was unfair. How were you expected to just work across the pool from him when he was like that. So close, yet so far away.
That weekend, you're sitting around Amber's fire pit with the rest of the staff making s'mores and cooking hot dogs. Amber keeps walking between the fire and the table she's set the drinks on, always returning with a new mixed drink for a new victim. You're just about to take a bite of your s'more when she chooses you as her next target.
You accept the blue drink, albeit a little hesitantly, which seems to satisfy your fellow guard. The problem with Amber's drinks, it appears, is that they taste like candy. Felix is the first to point this out, having been Amber's first victim, and after only 20 minutes he's already feeling whatever it was she gave to him. That is the entire reason why you only take sip before returning to your food.
"May I?' Jungkook asks, leaning over in his chair and gesturing towards the blue liquid.
"Your poison," you said with a shrug. You watch him tentatively, his eyes widening after the first sip.
"Oh no," he says, a smile on his face. "She wants to kill us."
You nod your head. "It's a dangerous game we're playing."
Jungkook takes another sip of your drink before handing it back. "May the odds be ever in our favor," he replied, raising three fingers and closing his eyes solemnly.
"I have a feeling they will not be," you laughed.
"You're absolutely right. Someone will vomit in the pool tomorrow, and it will not be one of the kids."
"Who are you putting you money on?" you asked as you turned to the group.
"Felix is already feeling it, Mr. Krabs."
"True, he seems like a light weight."
"What about you?" Jungkook asked.
"Me?"
"Are you a light weight? I need to make an informed decision."
"It depends," you said, turning back towards him. "The fact that Amber is out to ruin our lives, is not looking good for me."
Jungkook seemed to contemplate this, as he scanned the circle around the fire.
"Stop making eyes at me, Jeon," Chris said with a laugh.
"Never, baby," Jungkook replied with a wink, earning a snort from the recipient.
You took another sip of your drink, feeling Jungkook turn his attention to you as you did so, and your eyes meet his. He raises a challenging eyebrow to which you roll your eyes. You're about to tell him to mind his business, when Amber speaks up.
"My money's always on Dana; she can't hold her liquor at all," she said as she handed a pink drink to her friend.
"No," Dana replied, turning around in her seat to glare at her friend. "I can handle my liquor just fine when it isn't made by a mad woman."
"Get new friends," Amber shrugged, completely focused on her next drink.
Dana only pouted in response as she nursed the drink bestowed upon her. The rest of the group, returning to their individual conversations.
The party progressed quickly, Amber's drink, inspiring confidence in the guards, and having Chris organize the group into various games. Currently, you found yourself seated between Amber and Jungkook, playing Kings.
Unfortunately you had made the mistake of picking Jungkook to be your mate after drawing a two of diamonds earlier in the game, and as the group had decided mates worked both ways, you had barely had a turn where you hadn't had to drink. It seemed Jungkook was not very good at this game, as he kept losing, though a couple of glances from him towards you had led you to believe that he might be intentionally losing in order to get you to drink.
Felix had drawn a Jack, leading to the first round of 'never have I ever,' and Jungkook unfortunately had put down two fingers right off the bat.
"Never have I ever," Dana spoke up a little too loudly. "had sex in a public place."
You put a finger down, trying to ignore the way everyone's eyes scan the group. You realize only you and Chris have put a finger down just as Dana is demanding you tell them where.
"That's not in the rules," you insisted as you shook your head 'no.'
"You're no fun," Amber added, pushing on your shoulder lightly.
"Torment Chris, not me," you defend, pointing the one remaining finger you have up at him.
"I thought we were in this together," he said, his eyes wide.
"You weren't stepping up to defend me," you fired back. "And it's your turn, anyways."
Chris smiled at this, before pulling a dramatic thinking face as he contemplated his own never.
You could feel Jungkook unabashedly staring at you, and hesitantly you turned to meet his gaze. It was hard to read him, whether it be the alcohol in your system or the way he always seemed to surprise you, but regardless you felt a bit embarrassed to admit such a thing in front of him. If he had put a finger down, very well, you were in this together. But he hadn't, and you couldn't help but wonder what he thought of you. You weren't sure if you had made it better for yourself or worse by refusing to add details to the story.
You're not listening to Chris when he states what he has never done, but whatever it was, has Jungkook lowering his final finger and a smirk dancing across your lips.
"Drink up, mate," he says in a low-tone as he raises his cup to yours.
And so you do, and you continue to do throughout the game. Amber's turning on music later in the night, and you're all dancing along to her playlist, which Jungkook keeps complimenting, and you agree with his opinions.
You're pretty sure her neighbors hate all of you, as Dana keeps being a 'woo girl' every time a new song comes on, and Amber does not seem to care that the sun set hours ago, but you're in too much of a haze from the alcohol to really care.
The music is all you focus on as you dance along with your friends, laughing as Felix shows off what his Fortnite experience has earned him. You keep wandering closer to Jungkook as you dance, you know this, and you think he might as well as he reaches out for your hands occasionally, pulling you closer, or twirling you, and you're too drunk to care if it's obvious you’re flirting with him.
You don't dance for long, when Amber is throwing your sleeping bags onto the trampoline and trying to explain that everyone has to go to work tomorrow, so you should all try to sleep.
Jungkook must not be as drunk as you, because he makes you get your toothbrush out of your bag and head to the bathroom with Amber, who also makes sure you take care of your hygiene, before stumbling back outside, your friend at your side.
"You're welcome," she says, in what you assume she must think is a whisper but definitely is not. You assume she's referring to the fact that she helped you clean up before bed, something you had already thanked her for several times, but as you climb onto the trampoline to join your friends, you realize it was blatantly obvious you were flirting with Jungkook tonight, as she has placed your sleeping bag next to his.
You must go still for too long, because Felix sits up to look at you.
"I know, it's weird right?" he said, not understanding why you've stopped moving.
You nod your head, before walking slowly to your sleeping bag, using all of the energy you still have to ensure you don't fall on any of your friends. Your movement shakes the trampoline, causing Dana to start laughing and the rest of the guards to follow suit, so that when you lie down, Jungkook is laughing next to you.
You turn on your side so that you're facing him, and when he finally stops laughing, he's looking back at you with a large smile on his face, and you think that you would like to see that again and again and again.
"Work should be fun tomorrow," he whispered, the smile not leaving his face.
"I don't even want to think about it," you whispered back, giggling a little bit.
"You'll be okay," he assured you, giggling as well. "I'll be there to make sure of it."
"My hero," you said, your eyes closing a little as the alcohol began to tire you out.
"Yeah?" He said, shuffling a little closer to you. "I guess I really am saving lives as a life guard, huh?"
You mumble an agreement, causing Jungkook to giggle again.
"Goodnight, _______."
You feel like you've been hit by a truck the next day at work. Sitting in the sun and sweating out what little water your dehydrated body has left does nothing to stop the pounding in your head or the swirling of your stomach. You're surprised you make it through you first two shifts without passing out.
Perhaps worse than the headache and the nausea is the fact that Jungkook is ignoring you. At first you thought you were overreacting, but you have been here for hours and he hasn't said a single word. You've tried giving it the benefit of the doubt. You figured that maybe he felt like shit today too and because of that he wasn't his normal charming self and didn't want to talk to anyone.
You had wanted to believe that, but he had been talking to Chris and Felix like normal all morning.
So then you tried to think if the girls did something to piss him off last night. You suppose there was a chance that you missed something last night. But then he had talked to Amber and Dana as well. Leaving you the only lifeguard he seemed to refuse to interact with today.
You were almost happy you felt horrible so that you could only focus so much on Jungkook's silent treatment.
Amber walking towards you, signifying the end of your shift is potentially the best thing you have ever seen and maybe that's why you jump up from your chair a little too quickly, making your head spin.
"Woah there, speed racer," Amber said, reaching out to you.
"This is your fault," you groan, bringing a hand to cover your eyes as you try and calm your spinning head.
"I didn't force anything down your throat."
You raise a finger to contradict her argument, when overpowering urge to rid your body of your stomach hits you and sends you running towards the trash can. Everything is spinning, swirling, shaking around you, sending the contents of your stomach into the trash.
Your dry-heaving when someone comes up behind you and and gently reaches around to grab the scrunchie off of your wrist and pulls your hair back.
"At least you made it to the trash can," Jungkook said, to which you give a short nod, as your stomach finally calms down.
You hear him walk away, and when you finally pull your head from the bin, he's gone.
You're not as surprised when he avoids you for the rest of the week, especially after he watched you throw up into a trash can. Each day the sting you feel at the snub rises back up, but you get almost used to not talking to him. It still hurts when you watch him laugh with Chris and Amber at lunch, leaving you to sulk and wonder what you did to make him ignore you in the first place.
After a week of silence, you decide to confront him, taking the quickest shower you could possibly manage after work, and standing outside of the boys locker room to wait for him.
He seems a little shocked when he walks out, drying off his hair with a towel, but he doesn't try to walk past you, which you take as a good sign.
“Did I do something to make you mad?” you ask.
“Do you want to go see a movie tomorrow?” he asks, not answering your question.
Your eyes widened at this, but you decide to stand your ground. “Answer my question first.”
“No, you didn’t. I’m sorry," He looked down at his feet, the tops of his ears red. "I’m just bad at this.”
“Bad at this?”
He sighed.“I like you, and it’s hard for me to talk to girls I like, and I want to take you to a movie, but I didn’t know how to ask.”
“Yeah, okay.”
"Yeah?” He smiled, looking up at you.
“I’d like to go see a movie with you.”
“Cool.”
"Cool," you repeated, clapping your hands awkwardly in front of you.
You stand together in silence, the other guards having already left the pool, and you're not sure what you're supposed to do now.
"Do you want a ride home?" Jungkook asked, rubbing at the back of his neck.
"No, it's cool. I can just take the bus."
"Are you sure?" He asked as the two of you began walking to the parking lot. "I really don't mind."
"Seriously, it's okay."
"Let me drive you home," he asked, turning to block your path and forcing you to stop.
His sudden movement caused you to almost run into him, the closeness of your bodies not lost on you as you looked up at him. "Okay," you said, your voice quiet for fear of giving away how nervous being this close to him made you feel.
"Cool," he replied, just as quietly, looking down at your lips for just a moment, before turning back around and walking to his car.
You stood still for a moment, trying to process all that just happened, before catching up with Jungkook. He liked you, you thought as you sat in his passenger seat. Maybe all of those times that you had been looking longly at him across the pool, he had been doing the same, the two of you ships passing in the night until now.
You're already in Jungkook's car on your way to the movie, when you realize the backseat of his car is filled with pillows and blankets. You turn to him with a furrowed brow, only able to assume the worst.
"It's not what it looks like," he laughed.
"Oh? And what does it look like?"
His cheeks turned red as he shook his head. "We're going to a drive-in," he replied, expertly avoiding your previous question.
"Really?" you asked, your eyes going wide. "I've always wanted to do that, even though that sounds very 'I was born in the wrong generation' of me."
He smiled at this. "I thought it sounded a little more romantic than just a normal movie."
"Very summer bucket list of you," you agreed.
A few moments later Jungkook pulled into the drive-in, handing money to the girl working the booth before you could object and pay for your own ticket, and securing your spot in the middle of the lot.
Jungkook was right about this being more romantic, as you can't stop from smiling as the two of you set up the back of his truck together.
"Here," Jungkook said, passing you the last pillow, "take this, and I'll go grab us some snacks."
"No, wait," you said, putting the pillow in its place. "I'll help you pay for it."
He shook his head no as he walked backward to the concession stand.
"I know how much money you make," you insisted, to which he flashed you a bright smile before turning around to walk the rest of his trek.
You hop out of the bed of the truck once he's not looking and pull enough money out of your bag to pay for your ticket and what you assume will be half of the snacks. You're able to stow it away in his center console and get back into the back of the truck, before he walks back holding a large bucket of pop corn and two drinks, which he is trying his hardest to balance in one hand. Again you're out of the truck bed, moving to grab the sodas from him so he doesn't spill them. He giggled as you took the drinks from him and again you cannot help but think that despite looking like a mythical god with his toned body and long hair, he really is cute.
He placed the bucket between the two of you as you settle back into your seats and switched the speaker beside the truck on, so that you were now listening to the radio while you waited for the movie to begin.
They were showing Grease tonight, which again both fulfilled your retro desires of being at a drive-in theater, but also sounded very cringe to voice out loud. So instead the two of you talked about music as the radio filtered through the classic hits.
Soon the movie was starting, and it felt so comfortable to be there in that moment with Jungkook. Jungkook quickly proved he was not lying about his singing background, as he quietly sang along to “Summer Nights” as the music began. You found yourself looking at him during that scene and once he realized your eyes were on him, he looked down at his lap, with a shy smile on his face.
You think about teasing him, but decide to give him a break as you turn back towards the screen. He doesn't stop singing along to the parts he knows just loud enough for you to hear and you're glad, because he actually does have a nice voice, though you're only so surprised considering he has proven he is good at everything since you met.
You feel the mood shift between the two of you when the drive-in scene begins and when John Travolta throws his arm over Olivia Newtown-John, Jungkook coughs awkwardly, looking down at his own hands. Of course he's shy, you think, because that's the only thing that could make him more endearing.
He looks so cute as he makes sure to keep space between the two of you doing this scene that you're not sure if you actually want him to make a move or not. Sure, you can't help but think that despite Sandy's protest towards Danny's sin wagon you wouldn't mind being in Jungkook's.
And later when your hands accidentally brush against each other when you both reach for popcorn, you realize that if anything is going to happen between you and Jungkook, you're going to have to be the one to initiate it.
He drives you home after the movie, and you like how easy it is to laugh and talk with him. He dramatically sings the songs from the movie after you compliment his singing voice and you pretend that you regret mentioning it, despite his voice sounding good even when he's joking.
And when he pulls into your driveway you decide it's time to take control of what you want, and so you ask him to walk you to your door. He looks caught off guard at this, but he doesn't protest as he follows you to the back of your house. When you turn to face him instead of going inside, Jungkook smiles brightly and lets out a small laugh as he stands illuminated by the small light on your back porch. You can't help but smile back as your hand brushes against his arm before the both of you lean in, lips meeting in a simple kiss. When you pull away, Jungkook's eyes stay closed for a moment, before meeting you with a sort of innocent happiness you didn't expect to see from him.
So you kiss him again, because he's too cute to kiss just once, and this time he smiles against your lips before reaching around you to pull your body closer to his. This kiss is more passionate than the first, but still fun, something you think Jungkook does naturally. Every moment you've spent with him has been fun and you think that's what summer should be and is with him.
Working with Jungkook after your date is different. It's both more enjoyable and unbearable. Enjoyable because now, instead of trying to hide the way you stare at him throughout your shift, the two of you can't stop looking at each other and smiling every time your eyes meet. He developed a code two days after your date, which is literally just playing charades across the pool and trying to figure out what the other person is saying to you.
Your shifts are unbearable because now you have to look at him in his tight red shorts and fight the urge to swim across the pool and crawl into his lap or to kiss him as you both walk back to the staff building. Even in the staff building you keep your hands off of him, though Amber admitted the day after your date that she already knew. Yet, you still feel weird about PDA in front of the other guards, so you avoid it. Maybe that's why the past two days you've thrown yourself at him as soon as the two of you get into his truck.
The first time he laughed as you pulled his lips to yours. The second time he seemed just as starved for you as you were for him.
Jungkook always insists that the two of you do something after work and you're happy he seems to want to spend as much time with you as you do with him. He always has a plan, having so far taken you bowling, driven down to the beach, and you've walked along the board walk, with ice cream or that one time where you decided to get slushies instead. His lips turned blue and when you teased him about this, he kissed you. When he pulled away you admitted that he tasted like the color blue.
"How can something taste blue?" he laughed.
"I can't explain it but you do," you said.
He pulled you into his side as you continued to walk along the boardwalk and began to muse about things that tasted like blue like blue candy, blue slushies, and the like.
Now, the two of you are on your way to a secret location, as Jungkook had dubbed it, for a picnic he had been planning. All week he had been asking you what type of food you liked, what kind of drink you would want, and should the two of you drink alcohol. After agreeing that you would drink some wine, Jungkook came to work the next day and looked bashful as he admitted that he had forgotten he would have to drive. You kissed him in the staff building because he looked too cute not to and no one else was at work yet since the two of you had the first shift.
When you got into his truck after work today, he had immediately taken a small bouquet of flower out of the cooler and handed them to you. You tried not to blush too much but the action was more romantic than Jungkook had ever been with you and it was hard to find the words to express this without sounding like an idiot. So you said thank you.
Jungkook insisted that he knew you loved it because you couldn't hide your emotions from your face. He was right.
Jungkook is a romantic though, and you learned this pretty quickly. It's the little things he's done since your first day, like always grabbing an extra water for you so that, when your shift is over five minutes after his, he can hand it to you as soon as you walk into the staff building.
Jungkook pulls into a large clearing and announces that you've reached the secret location. It's beautiful you think as you get out of the car, ivy hanging from the trees that create the perimeter of the large open field.
"My mom and dad used to take us here to hike," Jungkook explained as you once again set up the back of his truck with blankets and pillows. "There's an inlet and some cliffs on the other side of those trees." He settled into a couple of the pillows as he pointed directly in front of you two.
"So you're hikers," you said as you sat beside him, his arm coming up to rest around your shoulders, a large improvement from your first date.
"My mom is more than my dad," he replied. "I think he just came with us because he loved her, because he always seemed at least a little miserable."
You laughed at this, turning your body closer to his as you did so. "Yeah, I don't think my parents would ever be up for hiking."
"My mom and brother still go together sometimes."
"And you?"
"I go sometimes, but it’s not really my thing."
It's easy to talk to Jungkook and it's only when his stomach growls that you realize you should actually have the picnic you intended to have. It's easy to lose track of time when you're with him, yet at the same time it feels like the clock is constantly ticking on the two of you, as you will go your separate ways at the end of summer. Sometimes you feel a bit panicked when you realize you lost track of time because you think maybe you wasted the limited hours you'll have with him.
You try not to think about that tonight and instead focus on enjoying every single moment with him even if it is just talking about what Marvel character is the best.
Jungkook only lets you have a moment after you finish eating before he's getting out of the back of his truck and holding out his hand for you to follow him. You hold his hand as he leads you to the edge of the clearing, into the woods, and then to the cliffs he had just told you about.
He looks so confident as he stands at the edge of the cliff and you stand about two steps back putting distance between you and what you assume is at least serious injury if not death.
Jungkook notices this as he turns back to look at you with a smirk.
"Are you afraid of heights?" his voice mocking you.
"I have self-preservation instincts, which I'm not so sure you have."
He laughed at this, walking back to pull you into him. He leans down to give you kiss, before turning to walk further down the path, thankfully far away from the cliffs this time.
This path takes you to another cliff, this one situated a few feet above the inlet Jungkook had mentioned, and before you can enjoy the view of the ocean in the distance for too long, Jungkook is pulling his shirt over his head, drawing your attention to him.
You must look as confused as you are, because Jungkook laughs.
"It'll be fun," he says, not answering any of your questions, as he reaches down and rids himself of the black joggers he so often wears. You try not to stare as he stands before you in only his boxer briefs, his thighs looking even more toned than they do in his lifeguard uniform, and you're just about to ask if he expects you to fuck him in the woods, when he starts walking towards the cliff, and you realize he intends to jump.
He turns back towards you, a smile on his face. "Well?" His eyes rake over your body and you realize he also intends for you to jump.
"What did I say about self-preservation?"
"Was that what you said? All I heard was, 'I'm an actual child and I'm afraid.'"
"Oh, so it's like that?"
He smiled before turning back to face the inlet beneath him and jumping from the cliff.
You walked to the edge to ensure his death, and when you looked down, he was looking back up at you with a smile.
"Come on, _____!" He laughed. "I'll be here to catch you, baby."
And you try to convince yourself it isn't because he called you baby but that you have to prove to him that you're not wimp that you pull your sundress over your head and throw it behind you towards Jungkook's clothes. His eyes rake over your body again and maybe that's what gives you the confidence to take the few steps to the edge of the cliff.
You look down, which is a huge mistake, because it makes you want to run back to the truck and drive yourself home.
"It's not that far," he insisted, probably noticing the way you took a step back.
"It's like eight feet," you shouted back.
"No, it's not," he laughed. "I said I've got you."
Your eyes meet his, and you swear under your breath before jumping from the cliff, all of the air seeming to leave your body as you fall to the water beneath you.
When you surface, Jungkook is true to his word, having swam the small distance necessary to be right beside you. You a little to enthusiastically cling to him, your heart still racing as your arms wind around his neck, ensuring your safety.
"Aren't you a lifeguard?"
You frown at him. "The edge of the pool is like two inches taller than the water."
"You're just lucky I passed my life guard test, so I can tread water and hold onto you, you big baby."
“How lucky for me," you deadpan as you consider pushing him under the water for teasing you.
Just as you're about to do so, Jungkook's lips meet yours, and you forget any anger you had towards him for calling you a baby as he kisses you long and slow. Your heart is racing again when you pull away, but for all of the right reasons this time.
He pulls away from you completely after this, leaning back to float in the inlet and you do the same, letting the silence of the space float over the two of you, the cicadas singing their summer song just for the two of you.
You let yourself relax, not thinking about anything as you let the ocean wash over you. You must be doing this for too long, because the next thing you know Jungkook is swimming towards you, and when you swim upright again, he pulls you back into his arms.
"Come on," he said, after giving you a quick kiss. "let's head back up, the sun’s going to set."
You follow him back to shore, where he shows you how to climb back up to the cliff, something you wish you did a bit more gracefully, as Jungkook’s light smile makes you blush a little, knowing he wants to laugh at you but is holding back.
“Fuck off, it was hard.”
He only shakes his head at this as he hands you a towel and the two of your dry off, Jungkook lightly ruffling your hair with his towel.
You walk back to the truck hand and hand, and when you get back into the bed of the truck, you lean into his side, again his arm resting easily across your shoulders as if you belonged at his side. You watch the sunset, occasionally saying something about how beautiful it is, and it feels so right being in his arms and with him, as if you have done this so many times before.
You feel his eyes on you so you look up at him. He holds your gaze for a few moments, before he leans in and kisses you, this one more passionate than any before, and you feel like you've been left wanting when he pulls away with you. When you open your eyes, he's looking back at you with an intensity you haven't seen before, and because of this you do not hesitate to move so that you are straddling his lap, and pull him back into another kiss.
The bed of the truck is hard against your knees despite the layer of blankets laid down for the two of you, but you don't mind too much as his hands roam your body, exploring every inch of you without the usual shy nature he has around you.
His hands find their way beneath your sundress, cupping at your ass, and he lets out a laugh as he comes in contact with your underwear, still wet from your earlier swim.
You can't help but laugh too, pulling away long enough for him shake his head.
"Is all of this for me, baby?" he asks, moving so that you sit beside him instead of on his lap.
"Shut up," you laugh, as he moves so that he is laying between your legs. He only smiles in response as he takes your panties off, the cool of the night sending a chill across your still damp body.
He presses a kiss to the inside of your thigh, looking up at you with his doe eyes, as if he has no bad intentions in mind. He keeps pressing kisses between your thighs until he reaches your core, looking up at you, almost bashfully as if what's he doing is just occurring to him.
“I’ve been thinking about what you said at Amber’s that night," he said, eyes raking over your body.
“Yeah?"
“Does this count as having sex in public?” he asks, a smirk on his face as his eyes meet yours.
“I don’t know,” you muse looking around the truck bed. “I suppose someone could show up at any moment and catch us,” you said, the thought sending heat to your core.
“Perfect,” he said.
And with that he buries his face between your legs, pressing a small kiss to your clit and then a licking long and slow up your slit. He moves his attention to your bud after this, lapping at it in a way that has your thighs pressing against his head, but he only laughs as he continues his work, using his hands to push them apart again.
His right hand slides from holding your thigh down to your dripping cunt, as he teases the entrance with a finger before pushing it into you, a moan falling from your lips at the new stimulant.
"You're so tight for me," he says, pulling away from your clit long enough to look back up at you and press a kiss to your hip.
"Jungkook," you breathe, as he goes back to lapping at your bud, the pleasure growing as he adds a second finger.
You can feel your orgasm building in your middle, your toes curling at his movements, and just as you think you might be close, he pulls away from you, sending you tumbling away from it.
You're just about to protest when he sits back on his knees and pulls his shirt off. He smiles down at you, seemingly pleased with denying you your orgasm, before moving back up your body to kiss you.
"You're gonna cum on my cock," he says, before pressing a kiss to your neck that has you moaning in agreement. He nips and sucks at that spot, earning hums of approval in response, and then he's moving down your body again, placing kisses haphazardly until he reaches your collarbone.
The thought leaves your lips before you can think better of it. "Sin wagon," you whisper, causing Jungkook to look up at you. You can't help but laugh as he cocks an eyebrow at you and he does the same, before kissing you again and again and again.
"Sin wagon," he echoes with a snort, before rolling the both of you over so that you're straddling his lap. "You look perfect on top of me," he says, rubbing his hands up and down your thighs.
You hum in agreement as you reach down to free him of his sweats and boxer briefs, pulling them both down at once, and laughing a little as you and Jungkook struggle to pull them all the way off as he lies on the truck bed. Once off, Jungkook sits up enough to pull your sundress over your head, his mouth finding your breasts as he throws it to the side.
You throw back your head as his tongue swirls around your nipple, his hand playing with the other, and when you finally look back down at him, you find he's been watching you the whole time. He pulls away, a smile on his face, and you happily pull him into another kiss, following his movement as he pulls you down so your chests are flush together as he lays back down.
You break the kiss to reach behind you and stroke his length, looking back to align his cock with your core, and with a tentative movement, you slowly sink back on him. You turn back to look at him, your hands moving to his chest, and you watch as his eyes squeeze shut and moan falls from his lips.
He looks just as beautiful as he always does, and as you take in all of him, you give yourself a moment to let your hands explore his body just as he did earlier. He looks back at you with his doe eyes, amusement playing on his face as you trace the lines of his abs lightly with your fingers.
"Baby," he says, causing you to stop your movement, "please start moving."
You smile, moving with a teasingly slow pace that has him gritting his teeth, and placing his hands on your hips to increase your pace. You try to fight against him, but he's stronger than you, and as he guides your hips, the feeling of him filling you again, has you losing your will to fight him.
The sound of sex fills the quiet night as you rock against him, your moans echoing each other as you both lose yourself to the feeling of each other.
One of Jungkook's hands moves from your hip to your clit, bringing you closer to the edge as he seems to be reaching his peak as well.
"I need you to cum," he pants, "so I can pull out, okay?"
You nod your head, focusing on the way it feels to be with him and on reaching your high. Your movements falter as your orgasm hits you. Jungkook lets you come down from your high, before rolling your bodies over, pulling out, and cumming on your stomach. You're both panting when he lays down beside you, and once you finally feel your heart rate coming down, you look at the mess he's left on you, Jungkook laughing as he notices the way you grimace. He reaches for one of the towels you threw to the side earlier and cleans up his work, laughing as he does so.
When he lays back down beside you, he pulls you into his side, while you look up at the stars above you. You think they've never looked so bright as you lay in bliss next to him, and when you look over at him, his eyes seem to shine just as brightly.
"Cassiopeia," he says, pointing up at the sky.
"Of course you know constellations," you giggle, nestling further into his arms.
"Of course?"
"Yeah," you said, placing a kiss to his cheek. "it's just one more endearing thing about you on a very long list."
"Oh, so you think I'm endearing?" he teases, tickling your side as he does so.
"You know you're endearing," you reply, rolling your eyes.
"It's still nice to hear," he admits looking down at you. "Especially from someone I like so much."
"Oh, so you like me?"
"You know I like you."
Jungkook heads back to school tomorrow. He keeps winking at you when you make eye contact across the pool, and you try to pretend like you're not upset that this is the last time he’ll do that. You've known this was coming, he had told you when he started school again weeks ago, but now that it's here you feel caught off guard. Like someone should have told you either not to get attached to him or to have used your time together more wisely. You can't help but feel there's more you could have done together, more you could have told him.
Despite your summer together, you and Jungkook are not officially a couple. He will go to his school and you will go to yours. The tans will fade, and so will the feelings between you, the memories of your days at the pool together and the nights spent in each other's arms. You know this but accepting it is much harder.
When you finish your last shift together, Jungkook drives you home, and he does a good job of keeping the conversation light, despite the fact that you are looking longingly out the car door. You can see yourself doing it, feel yourself mourning your loss despite him sitting right beside you, but he doesn't stop trying to make you laugh, not even once he's made it to your house.
“I don’t even get a kiss goodbye?” He’s smiling when you turn to look at him, but there's something series behind his eyes, that makes you think maybe he's as sad as you are right now. You almost feel bad for not spending the drive here looking at him and memorizing the way he looks.
You offer him a smile back, and it's genuine. It’s a thank you for the months he was in your life, a thank you for the adventures. You lean in to kiss him and you hope it carries the weight of the goodbye you want to give him. You hope he knows all the things you want to say to him are held in that kiss. When you pull away his eyes stay closed for a few moments just like that first kiss you shared, and when he looks back you his doe eyes look sad. You almost want to pull him back into your arms and ask him to spend one last night with you, but you know he has to pack and he's put it off every other night so that he could be with you.
“Can I call you?” he asks, his ears turning red as if he hasn’t known you in more intimate ways.
You nod your head, perhaps a bit too enthusiastically, but you don't care if he knows how happy that makes you. “I’d like that.”
“Cool,” he smiles as he brushes a piece of hair behind his ear. “We also have a pretty good football team if you ever wanted to watch a game or something.”
“Yeah?” you reply, not saying the truth that hangs between the two of you. “Our team sucks, so it would be nice to watch someone win.”
“Yeah? I mean, yeah. Just let me know when you want to come up and I can meet up with you," he said, the smile on his face wide and a little crooked.
You want to kiss him again you want to hold him hostage here with you, but then you think it'll be easier if you just rip the band-aid off and hope he means it when he says he wants to see you again. “Okay," you said instead of kissing him, as you moved to get out of the car.
When you shut the door behind you, he rolls down the window and looks back at you. “Good bye, Jungkook.”
“Good bye, _____.”
He seems to realize what you had just moments ago, that dragging this out is not doing either of you any favors, as he frowns slightly before rolling the window back up and backing out of your driveway. You watch him drive away, and he sends you a final wave before driving down the street in his sin wagon.
