Hey hey! How is your NaNo treating you? Anything cool youd like to share about it? Things you've learned?
Nano is going well right now. Not worrying about word count is actually rather freeing even if that's the ultimate goal. I picked up a book on Saturday, John Truby's Anatomy Of Story. I'm so freaking glad I picked this book up, the way he breaks down narrative structure and how characters should interact and overlap, how your opponents (antagonists) need to push and pull at your protagonist to get the most growth and potential from the story itself. It's wonderful.
I'm going to have a full review when I'm finished reading but this book has broken The Spindle open wide and forced me to deal with things that have been bothering me from the get go but I've been hoping I would feel my way to an answer at some point.
I've restructured a lot of the beginning and redid an entire plotline to bring two characters under the same plotline sooner. I've given Cal a more active goal and agency in the book.
I'm taking the next few days to finish reading and work through the steps of the book to get a better sense of the rest of The Spindle and I should have a really good sense of the structure so I can write the scenes from their.
I always used to think I was pantser but mostly that was the initial excitement of a new idea. One of the larger fanfics I finished I have two giant spiral bound legal pad plus countless scrap paper filled with chapter outlines to keep me on track. I think Spindle is going to be similar.
Thanks so much for your question!
