April encounters some strange turtles.
Everyday I think about how cute irl turtles are and yearn to hug them. I'm coping by drawing April doing it instead.

Hey hi :)
I Have a problem.
"Hey yeah, I feel like we all already knew that"
You are correct in that lol HOWEVER, it gets. Worse.
So. I was at a food drive yesterday, where we were making bags of produce and food and giving them out. And at the end I started a conversation with some of the people there about ✨turtles✨.
Now you have to understand ALL of the people there (aside from my sister and myself) were definitely above the age of 60 most aiming steadily toward 70/80 ok? So I was not just gonna start going of about tmnt. Although my sister made it clear to them from day one I was obsessed, and they found that hilarious and very cool (old people love me idk man)
SO I decided to keep the conversation just about real life turtles instead. So one guy would say "I have this kind of itty bitty Trutle" and I would be like oh cool:)! Does he eat strawberries? And hed say "oh yeah but it not good for them so just a couple..." Stuff like that and then another guy told a crazy story about one turtle he had since my age that he lost, another that was almost stolen from him and another GIANT one he found at a trash dump.
"ok so? This all sounds very normal ngl."
RIGHT. And it appeared so. But the whole time I'm standing there itching inside to tell them everything about every Trutle they brought up, just full infodump mode. More so, I wanted SO BAD to bring TMNT into the conversation. But I didn't. I really didn't want to make them take all the information right there and then pluss the typical "my generation was the best, that sounds weird" I usually tend to get from older people.
AND THEN God bless his soul, the first guy with the itty bitty turtle just randomly said "I have a Red Eared Slider."
...............
.................
....................
RESPECTFULLY SIR, YOU DIDNT HAVE TO. I WAS DOING SO WELL AND YOU JUST HAD TO SAY THAT?? So yeah after that I ummmm yeah there was no way I was going to not say something.
Siiggghh
So basically the next 20/30 minutes looked like me asking him 101 questions all about the slider and telling him how much I loved them and throwing a bunch of facts he probably already knew. And then I looked at all of them and said "Do you like spiny softshell turtles?" And none of them aside form itty bitty turtle guy knew what that was.
Siiggghhh
So after THAT I HAD to tell them all about the spiny softshell turtles. Right?? HOWEVER I DIDNT TELL THEM ABOUT ROTTMNT. DIDNT BRING IT UP ONCE. TECHNICALLY. THEY WERE SPARED.
Anyways tell me I'm not the only one who has interactions like this on a daily basis?
I thought Donnie could use a nice break, hanging out with other softshells!
pancake?
this spiny softshell turtle was an exciting find at work the other day :)
I keep seeing this in various pieces of Rise media, and I'm not calling anyone out or anything, but I do just want to say something.
Spiny Softshells are not called "Spiny" because you can see their spine!
In a standard spiny softshell, you shouldn't be able to see their spine at all!
Ridges, yes. But no spine bumps.
Our dearest Donatello, with his sometimes-there spine, is an outlier adn should not be counted.
Now you see me, now you dont
No, what the "Spiny" in "Spiny Softshell" is refering to, are these:
Both the common name, spiny softshell, and the specific name, spinifera (spine-bearing), refer to the spiny, cone-like projections on the leading edge of the carapace
- Wikipedia
Also the spines are "more commonly found in males". Not all males have them, and not all females are missing them, so Donnie not having them could mean nothing or it could feed whatever trans headcanon you might have for him. Dealers choice.
Anyway that's all I wanted to say. I have some personal headcanons for why we can see Donnie's spine, which you can check out here if you're curious, but otherwise I'm done here. You may go about your day, knowing very slightly more about an underappreciated species of turtle.
Found a pretty big spiny softshell turtle swimming in our nets at work yesterday. If my ID is right it is a fair bit north of it's listed range.
Get flat.
I discovered my love for these litol creatures,
They are pretty
