I offer you, a Buckley Family Headcanon.

A couple weeks after the events of 2x13, Maddie’s physical wounds have all healed, she’s started going for counselling, she’s back to work, things with Chimney have been a bit challenging but they’re taking it slow. So Maddie decides it’s time to call her parents. She does. Or, she tries. They never answer. Maddie tells Buck and asks if he’s spoken to them, maybe they’re on vacation or something. After all, Maddie hasn’t spoken to her parents in years. Buck brushes it off and says they’re probably busy or something but he’ll try to call them too. He does, they answer on the first ring. He finds out they’ve gotten the voicemails but won’t be speaking to her. Buck starts to tell them about what happened with Doug, but they cut him off. “We know. It’s been all over the news. Now everyone knows our daughter killed someone. Being out in public has been great.” Buck gets really furious with them, defends his big sister. “I can’t believe you! Maddie almost died out there!” Hangs up on them. Goes back to work and is really grumpy and reckless all day - Bobby has to pull him aside, gets him to talk, and then sends him home early. Later, when Buck and Maddie are sparring, she brings it up. He tells her not to bother calling them anymore, because they’re idiots, etc. Maddie gets a little teary and hugs him.

**Please note I have not yet watched season one so if there were details about the parents and this is OOC you’ll have to forgive me.

do you have any soft madney headcanons 😌?

Do I ever! Despite their traumatic pasts everything about them is soft and cute. I remember Kenneth describing Chimney as overcoming things with joy? Hell if he hasn’t found his match in perky, adorable Maddie.

♥ Any time Chimney wakes up first, he just watches her for a little while, thankful that she’s still there. He plays with her hair until she wakes up. Maddie isn’t just the woman of his dreams, she’s the love of his life. And the best part? He knows now that she absolutely loves him just as much.

♥ They play dance dance revolution and Chimney wins. Maddie gets a little pouty because she’s never lost before. He pulls her in for a kiss and makes a joke about being the dancing king (to the tune of the Abba song because he’s that level of dork). Maddie slaps him playfully and demands a rematch - she’s about to win and he just sort of tackles her because she’s so cute and he has to kiss that smile. Buck walks in while they’re making out and overreacts like the little kid he is.

♥ Things are pretty rocky when Maddie reconnects with her parents. There’s a lot of pain and resentment. It hurts a lot, especially the ever present “I told you so” that she feels any time she’s near them, or even just on the phone. One of her parents ultimately comments that they’re glad Doug is dead and they wish they could’ve done it themselves. That hurts Maddie most of all, because she still has nightmares about that. Chimney is always there when she needs him, though. He clutches her hand, or hugs her from behind, or showers her with soft kisses. Chimney is ultimately very happy that her parents try to rebuild their relationship with Maddie, and that they seem to like him.

♥ The first time someone calls her “the future Mrs. Han,” Maddie flinches. Chimney notices and worries that she’s having second thoughts. They’re best friends as much as they are lovers, so Chimney talks to her about it. Maddie reassures him that she can’t wait to marry him. But the mention of her married name affected her unexpectedly. She’s just rediscovered Maddie Buckley, and she fears that she’ll lose herself again. Chimney doesn’t care if she changes her name, he only cares that they’ll love each other forever. “Maybe I’ll change my name instead. I hear that’s become a thing now.” Maddie laughs. “Chimney Buckley? You sure about that?” He cringes. He would be teased mercilessly at work. They decide to link their names and become the Buckley-Han family.

♥ They sing “Promise Me Love” at their wedding!!

any headcanons about chimney and maddie telling all of their friends that they’re officially dating?

For some reason I feel like Chimney wouldn’t tell anyone. Canonly with past relationships he loved to give all the details, right? But it was all for show, he wasn’t himself and those relationships weren’t honestly real. And Buck didn’t even know the two of them were friends until that karaoke episode. Hen knows, because they’re besties and she’s got a good sense of people. Chimney is happy and constantly checking his phone and grinning like a damned fool. So Chimney doesn’t officially tell anyone. Just acts like they already know (”sorry can’t stay for drinks I’m meeting Maddie” / “omg Maddie hates these things and I keep teasing her because she does this scrunchy thing with her face it’s so funny” etc.). And Maddie visits often but she also teases Buck and quickly befriends everyone else at the 118 so like she’s just family at this point. 

Then one day Maddie is leaving and they just casually kiss goodbye and there’s a moment of ?!?!?! from everyone else and it stops Maddie in her tracks. Someone (probably Eddie) is like “You guys are dating?!”, someone else (Bobby?) goes “finally! why didn’t you say anything?” and Buck is fake-gagging because he’s an idiot. Maddie has a brief internal moment of ‘oh is he embarrassed of being with me I can’t blame him…’ But Chimney picks up on it and also he’s like “I thought everyone knew???” 

“We were hoping but you usually can’t shut up about that stuff?” 

“It’s different. I love Maddie.” 

Maddie is like !!!!!!!!! “You what??”

Cute shy Chimney shrugs and blushes. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

ANYWAYS.

Maddie would tell Josh and anyone else. She likes referring to Chim as her boyfriend.

any headcanons about chimney and maddie trying to adopt a kid?

I have so many feelings about them adopting and fostering kids because they would be such great parents and ugh I can hardly wait.

They’re in a stable relationship, living together. Marriage has been brought up a couple times but they’re in no rush for that, really. Kids, though, are a huge yes.

Maddie always wanted kids, but she and Doug weren’t able to conceive. They went and did tests and he told her the results said it was her that couldn’t carry a baby to term. It wasn’t until years later she found the report that showed it was actually him. It was devastating at the time, but now she’s relieved she never had kids with Doug. When she thinks back on it, she realizes that Doug definitely became more violent after those tests…

As we know, Chimney’s dad is an asshole. But his mom was the best. And the Lees taking him in is one of the best things that could have happened to him. He wants to do the same for other kids.

They start looking into adoption and fostering and all that. But here’s the thing: their first child isn’t planned. Maddie gets a 911 call from a teenager in distress. The 118 responds. Maddie stays on the phone with him the entire time. He came home to find his mom on the bottom of the stairs, bleeding. He doesn’t hang up, talks to Maddie even at the hospital. Mom is in bad condition, they find a distant relative to take him in. Chimney was the one to take care of his mom on the way to the hospital. A couple days later, he shows up at the 118 and it’s clear he’s been crying. He refuses to talk to anyone, he doesn’t remember Chimney’s name. He just remembers the number (118) and Chimney’s face. His mom died, his relative didn’t actually want him/kicked him out. Anyways, the kid mentions talking to the 911 lady… he does remember her name. It’s Maddie’s day off so Chimney gives her a call and lets them talk. They call Athena, too, because they don’t know what to do. Anyways, they end up taking this kid home and eventually adopting him.

They get married before they decide to adopt him. It’s a small ceremony with friends. During the reception they ask if the kid would be okay with them adopting him.

Soon after they start the adoption process, Maddie finds out she’s pregnant!

Maddie and Chimney will end up buying a house with 4 bedrooms. Buck’s gonna help out with the mortgage by paying rent and fixing up the basement as an apartment for himself. They’ll foster all sorts of different kids, most will just be temporary, but they’ll give them the love they need for a little while.

*taps mic* any headcanons about chim and maddie’s first time? cause i wanted it to be after bobby and athena’s wedding but i feel like that’s probably too soon.

I’m putting this one under a cut anon lol :P

You know, I haven’t really thought about that much aside from the obvious: Maddie initiating it, each being soft and paying special attention to each other’s scars, fumbling around and laughing like dorks, etc. They’ve both been very cautious and considerate of each other in developing the relationship for obvious reasons. So, there are two ways I could see it happening: impulsively or slowly and probably with some bashful conversations beforehand. After a wedding when emotions are heightened would be a good time for an impulsively fun time. Only real problem is that they were both pretty badly injured so I’m not sure how much physical healing will have happened by then? lol idk I’m not a doctor.

I would prefer them taking it slow because I’m a sucker both for ‘friends to lovers’ and slowburn and so far they’ve done an excellent job of that. Considering Maddie’s experience and the fact that she’s been with Doug since she was 18 (according to JLH) I can also see their first time… not ending up being their first time. As in, they start but Maddie gets overwhelmed/emotional, maybe gets some flashbacks. I can just see her starting to cry and Chimney getting really worried, asking if he did anything wrong. Maddie shakes her head, blurts out a “no.” She pulls away, drags the cover with her and tries to hide her tears from him. Chimney tries to comfort her, “we don’t have to do this.” “Do you want me to leave?” Maddie doesn’t want him to leave but suddenly she can’t speak and she almost feels like she’s choking. Chimney sort of sits up, trying to decide whether to leave or try to talk to her. He gets his answer when she whispers “I’m so sorry. I don’t – I don’t know why I’m–” He tells her it’s okay, they did this too soon. She asks him not to leave so he settles back in the bed, wraps an arm around her. She turns in his arms and cuddles into him, burying her face in his chest. That night they just hold each other until they fall asleep. They don’t try again for a while, but they talk about it. Maddie’s tried to work it through in counselling and starts to kind of understand herself. They just sleep together next time and several nights after that. And it’s nice. She feels safe. They hold hands and kiss softly and cuddle each night. Eventually it escalates and they make love. She cries then too, but not in the same way. They tell each other “I love you” and fall asleep.

do you have any headcanons about chim and maddie breaking up (and then getting back together)?

I don’t want to have breakup headcanons. I want them to be happy forever!! Unfortunately, due to Maddie’s past, and even Chimney’s, it’s inevitable that they will break up or have a fight/almost break up. JLH’s comments about what happens to Maddie after that last episode also hints at some big issues…

Anyways, we all know Maddie spent a long time in an abusive relationship and ‘rebound’ relationships can be problematic. Not to mention the trauma they both endured thanks to Doug. There’s gonna be a lot of guilt on both their parts. They may even mutually decide to ‘just stay friends’ while they each work through their traumas. So they make that decision during a date night and they kinda push their way through the night. When Maddie gets home, she crawls into bed still fully clothed and cries herself to sleep. She still sleeps with a bat. Doug being gone still hasn’t quite registered to the part of her that is constantly on the lookout, afraid. Especially at night, when he continues to haunt her dreams. She’s in therapy but she knows she’ll never be completely “healed” – she was forced to kill the man she once loved, after all. Chimney goes home and sulks, but when he returns to work in the morning, he overcompensates. Refuses to rest for even a minute. In the days following, he starts volunteering with various non-profits to try to get his mind off it.

They don’t talk for a week or two. Sure, they said they’d still be friends, but neither one knows how to go back to that? They have a couple awkward run-ins, including at work (like that call with the guy stuck in the box). Maddie starts spending more time with Buck, training harder, etc. Chimney only really talks to Hen about it, but tries to shrug it off. Buck and Hen end up conspiring, sick of the two who obviously miss each other. They trick them into meeting up - maybe even lock them in a room somewhere (because who doesn’t love that trope lol). They don’t get back together that day, but they talk. They admit that they miss each other. Chimney never wanted to push her into a relationship so he understands her reasons. Maddie just feels like she needs more time for herself because it’s not fair to drag someone she cares about that much when she’s clearly not ready. They hold hands and cry a little.

“More than anything, I’ve missed having your friendship.” Maddie says.

“Me too.” He smiles. “Though the kissing was pretty great too.”

Maddie blushes. “Yeah, you’re pretty good at that.”

“So, friends?” He asks. “For real this time? Because there are a couple movies I’ve been wanting to watch with you.”

“Yeah, for real.” Maddie laughs. “I really miss Buff Fridays too.”

They hug. Then make plans. Eventually, they’ll start ‘officially’ dating again. But they’ll be ready for it.
