Splotter has been all over the place quality-wise forever - even their better stuff like Antiquity and Roads and Boats can be seriously uneven - but something about Food Chain Magnate inspired me to give it a try and I really enjoyed it! Given that it's a pretty meaty no-luck game, one thing that impressed me was how open and dynamic the game can be right up until the end. Although catching up from a slow start will be hard, you don't lose flexibility and options just because you haven't made a lot of money yet, you can still effectively fight to improve your score and still have lots of choices (and so can remain fully engaged in the game). The money you make by selling burgers and cokes are really just points, you don't invest money in capital assets in the game (you just spend a few bucks on staffing costs), so making a ton of money early doesn't necessarily just give you a big leg up as you reinvest the money, the way you can in 1830. As much as I like 1840, 1853, and 1825, those games become a bit more constrained and less interesting as the game goes on. Anyway, it's a big game (4h with 5p, probably an hour and change per player) so not one I'll get a chance to play a ton, but really looking forward to playing again! #bgg #boardgamegeek #splotter #splotterspellen #foodchainmagnate
