S7E10, “Death’s Door”
"That's the round that I mean to put through my skull. Every morning, I look at it. I think, 'maybe today's the day I flip the lights out.'"
Bobby going out the way he always thought he would. Just not at his own hands.
totally not normal about sam in 7x10, pressing the scar on his hand because it's pain helps him know what's reality and what's not. because he knows that making him watch bobby die is one of the worst hells that lucifer could ever put him through, and so he's hoping desperately that bobby dying is not real.
do not talk to me about Bobby Singer cuz I will cry
“Well, as fate would have it, I adopted two boys and they grew up great. They grew up heroes! And you can go to hell.”
THATS THEIR DAD THOSE WERE HIS BOYS
Day 2 7x10 — “Death’s Door” Family is who we choose
For me, this episode isn’t only about death. It’s about farewell. And in a quiet way — it’s about Christmas.
There’s so much warmth in it. Not loud holiday cheer, but the kind of warmth that comes from people simply being together, knowing that time might be shorter than they wish.
Bobby’s father was a cruel, terrifying man. So cruel that Bobby spent his whole life afraid of becoming him. He never had children of his own — not because he didn’t want love, but because he was afraid of passing that damage on.
And that is exactly why he became the adult the Winchesters never had.
He raised two boys not by blood, but by choice. He stayed. He accepted them. He never broke them. He gave them safety instead of fear.
Bobby is proof that where you come from does not define who you are. That the cycle of violence can be broken. That family can be built differently.
Why does this matter for Cas?
Because his father and creator is a monster too. Cold. Distant. Willing to sacrifice anyone for a grand design. A god who does not nurture.
And yet, Cas chooses another path.
A family not of blood, but of attachment. A family that stayed with him to the very end and made him compassionate, human, alive.
This episode is about warmth before goodbye. About a home built not from walls, but from people.
And about the core truth of Supernatural:
family isn’t where you come from. Family is who you choose. _______ День 2
7x10 — “Death’s Door”
Supernatural:
семья — это не то, откуда ты пришел. Семья — это те, с кем ты остаешься.
Okay I don't expect brilliance from SPN Then and Now podcast. I expect two old dudes being confused (usually endearing, often maddening) and bts interviews with crew who have never given interviews (love!) But holy shit the season 7 top 5 episode ratings were abysmal.
For the record, Rob and Rich ranked:
1. Death's Door (reasonable)
2. Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo (reasonable)
- Time for a Wedding 🤮
- Time after Time (I love Dean I'll allow it)
- Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie (it was good but top 5????)
I know I'm a Casgirl so I'm biased towards Robbie Thompson and Ben Edlund. But omg none of the Cas episodes at the end are on the list. And oh my gosh Time for a Wedding is so creepy what the actual fuck. Again, I do not know what I expected. But hot damn.
My top 5 for the record:
1. Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo (I adore Charlie + Dean)
2. Reading is Fundamental (chaotic bedlund with so many iconic moments)
3. Death's Door (Good TV)
4. How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters (Incredibly tight episode from a storytelling pov. Funny, dark. You aren't a person holy shit what a fucked up thing to say and ironic given what we learn about Bobby in Death's Door.)
5. The Born Again Identity (I actually really liked the Sam subplot both him helping the girl and Lucifer. This was before Lucifer totally drove me nuts. And of course Dean, coiled so tight and the trench that traveled car to car and Cas being a badass and the destiel AMV)
As they say on Always Sunny: IM HOT!!!
