idk if u know abt this but I guess u do since u know a lotta stuff... so ive been down the tumblr rabbit hole of j2 and spn history, and this was i guess 2018 or 2019. i dont recall, but i think around s13-14

and saw a post about someone called Natalie Fischer who apparently was close to someone on the spn writing team or something,and hated on jared , destiel shipper, called Jensen homophobe, etc etc, and sent a bunch of borderline harassing messages to some other film critic called sheila talking abt jareds mental health,and basically blaming that for the shows drop in quality and stuff.

And i was pretty surprised that people in the media are so openly hostile and hateful.. it really was a shock. You recently posted about sam Highfield too... are there any others like them? Has this Natalie person continued their toxicity? i just feel so terrible to read those hateful messages to jared from old social media posts and just.. felt so bad for him... God,i wish people would be kinder because i cant imagine how anyone would feel to read such nasty things addressed at them and their family. More so when its someone from media that is pushing an agenda....

Don't worry anon, I got it. Yes, there are a few other unprofessionals which shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near shows/celebrities bc they are first and foremost toxic fangirls. Meredith Glynn is a heller who made it to the writers room, for example.

And then there's another "journalist" (fuck, I can't remember her name in the moment) which made it into fandom lore for being a red flag. Aaahh, my brain provided the name. It's Monica Gleberman.

A huge part of my "knowledge" comes from fandom dinosaurs which spilled the tea on curious cat (unfortunately the site no longer exists 😬). Maybe a few people here will add their knowledge to your ask. For example what happened to Nat Fisher.

Hey, random SPN question from someone who hasn't seen the whole show... I know Dean is explicitly stated to be straight... is Sam's sexuality ever explicitly stated? By Sam himself I mean, not Dean's "we don't swing that way"

Sam's sexuality is never explicitly stated by himself, despite that one time Dean said "we don't swing that way". (We all know Dean using we/us pronouns to speak for himself and Sam doesn't necessarily mean Sam agrees lol.) Sam never even fights against all the gay jokes made about him in early seasons, he just lets them lay and sticks to the topic, leaving his character wide open for pretty much any queer headcanon just as much as it does for a cishet guy who is secure in his sexuality/manhood.

And there's fandom lore that Sam has a tendency to use gender neutral terms when talking about relationships, though I keep forgetting to do my own fact check on this. I think in season one he does a bit of "I lost somone" when talking about Jess.

IIRC the gender neutral phrases were brought up at a con once and Jared agreed or was at least open to a possible queer reading of Sam. (I'm not sure if it was the same instance, or at a different con, when Jared said he could get behind a he/they Sam headcanon.) Not that we need the actor's opinion on it to enjoy a headcanon, but it's kinda cool to me when he's open to it.

On November 5, 2007 (yes, you read the date correctly), the Writers Guild of America strike begins. Supernatural season 3 just started airing and the strike poses a bit of an issue, as at that point only the episodes up to 12th (Jus in Bello) have been written. In the original version, Sam was supposed to save Dean from going to hell by completely giving into his powers. But now there's no time to do that. There are some ideas thrown around, like ending the season/series on Mystery Spot and maybe making a film after. Eventually, four more episodes are shot and season 3 ends on 16 episodes with Dean being dragged to hell in the finale.

Now they need to do something about it. Despite the initial plans to leave the angels out of Supernatural, a decision is made to have Dean saved by one (and to make them more acceptable for Kripke, let's make them dicks that plot to start the Apocalypse). So they sign one Misha Collins for three episodes to do the job (the reason why he lowered his voice was because he'd thought he'd only be in three episodes, he openly regretted that decision later on, understandably so). Fans fall in love. So they keep him. They try to kill him off a few times, but each time the fans demand Castiel come back.

Fast forward 11 seasons and Supernatural 15x18 Despair airs on November 5, 2020. Exactly 13 years after the strike. After years of denying Destiel's existence, Castiel The Angel Of The Lord confesses his love for Dean Winchester. The internet breaks, Destiel trends above the US election and rumors about Putin's resignation. There's a new influx of fans, many of those who stopped watching are coming back. Supernatural renaissance. Nine months later Destiel hits 100k fics on AO3 as a first ship in the history of the site.

One of the most fascinating phenomena in television that started with a strike.

Hello can i ask what heller means? I left the fandom in 2017 and came back in 2020 and the term was already there lol I was busy and just now got back in the obsession so I wanna know since no one explains it

Ok so I might not be the best source here since I joined the fandom in late 2020 but the way I understand it basically means someone who ships Destiel.

I believe it's a shortening of "Destiheller" which was used by w*ncesties as a slur and was later reclaimed by Destiel shippers 😅

I hope this is correct, if not feel free to educate me @ veteran hellers
